BlackMonarch: For editing existing subtitles that you get off a dvd, you need to get a program that can do OCR on the subtitles, then you have to go through the script and verify that there are no errors, and you can change the script as you please. This is covered over at doom9.org somewhere i think.
For making your own subtitles like fansubbers do, you start out by ripping the audio stream, then using the program SubStation Alpha, which can be hard to find these days. After doing a pass through substation alpha, you do a ton of editing of the file in notepad. A lot of work.

You know, i'm considering simply adding a few hundred "subtitle" commands to each of my AVIsynth scripts and encoding from there. Can I sub the entirety of Evangelion (excluding Death and the last two episodes) in 72 hours using this method?
Ask me about my secret stash of videos that can't be found anywhere anymore.
