Opinions, who's still writing them?

Yes, that is why a thumbs up or down system would be MUCH better than the one we have now. All people care about is if you recommend the video. Not how it changed your life and what you were wearing when you saw it and what you thought of a certain pixel in frame 1243

I always enjoy getting an opinion, whether it's positive or negative. Positive opinions make me feel good, and negative ones show me what I need to do differently.
However, I frequently find myself hesitating to leave an opinion because I DESPISE the ratings section. I always wonder if I am being fair; am I being too harsh, too lenient? I hate wondering about that.
I personally would be in favor of getting RID of the ratings section entirely and having only the feedback section.
I have toyed with the idea of giving straight 5's in every review and focusing my efforts solely on the Good, Bad, General sections, since I despise messing with the 1-10 system. However, as far as the Feedback sections go, I also hate leaving reviews where I don't really have anything specific to say there.
Usually, I don't leave a review unless I feel very motivated to do so; however, given my lack of technical knowledge, I usually don't have much helpful to say. So, I don't leave many reviews because I really don't know enough to be of any help.

I still write reviews. I've got about 17 now... something like that. And I've got 5 on my list. I think even just a viewer's feedback is very useful seeing as how most people are simply viewer's and not creators. I don't think you need to get very technical. You can still notice little things in the video, and the obivous effects.
But yeah the ratings system is hard to use effectively. And both the reviewer and the creator would have to know exactly what each number meant. And even then it's hard to use effectively.

Kusoyaro: We don't need a leader. We need to SHUT UP. Make what you want to make, don't make you what you don't want to make. If neither of those applies to you, then you need to SHUT UP MORE.

That and the thumbs up/down system Mag Launcher mentioned. Writing feedback could be optional... that could work, that way you could keep a top 10% with the highest ratio of thumbs up...Satori wrote:I'd like to get rid of the rating system, as well, and just focus on the feedback.

A thumbs up / down system would be so much worse. At least with ratings you get some sort of range, even if it tends to be grossly skewed. With such a clear cut method as that, however, you're just setting up another method that will be skewed even more. Sure I'm much more based on the feedback than the scores, and sure I wouldn't mind on many counts on the removal of scores all together, but the current 1-10 system is far better than a silly 'good/bad' system.

I don't really think a good/bad system would work either.
The only reason I mentioned only including feedback because I thought it might deter some of the people who only leave 10's and comments like "This video Rocks!" or something. It would force them to either no leave those comments or actually write something out

I still type up opinions, at least one a day, two on average, three being my max. But I'm slowing down my reviewing since it seems I'm talking to a ton of WALLS.
My "opinion" now is, if the vid creator doesn't comment on my first Opinion, I'm not writing out opinions on your other videos. Why? I don't know if my message is being read therefore I would rather not spend half an hour writing down my thoughts.
For me, a "Read it" or "thanks" is quite good enough for opnion feedback.

So many people just don't feel that they need to take the time to write an opinion, when there are other people doing it. The common: Why should I do it, if someone else is going to do it anyways. Also, there are a lot of people who write opinions, but don't say anything usefull at all. Things like:
Good
-Everything.
Bad
-Nothing.
General
-Loved it.
I sincerely don't think that this is helping anybody.
