Sure. I can't see a good reason to make an AMV if it becomes unpleasant.

If some do it for the audience, I think they've missed the point. If they please themselves doing it and they put their heart in it, then the audience comes by itself, and what if it doesn't come? You've made a vid you like.

(Not trying to convince you since what I'm saying is not very original... Just thinking aloud   )

Isn't that the reason most people make AMVs? To please themselves?
That's why I make videos.

But I know a lot of people that do it to get a specific reaction. Some people only make videos for attention. Way too many people, if you ask me. But my point was that if you spend all this time making a video, and then people just completely misinterpret it, it's disheartening. I remember Koop felt really bad after how it was received. It's different if you just make some flashy video that you don't put your heart into. If people don't like it, it doesn't get to you. But if people do like it and praise it, it makes you feel good. And if it makes you feel good, why not do that? That's what I see a lot of people doing (the ones that don't make videos for themselves).
Kusoyaro: We don't need a leader. We need to SHUT UP. Make what you want to make, don't make you what you don't want to make. If neither of those applies to you, then you need to SHUT UP MORE.

In a (somewhat) backward (or maybe perverse) way, they are doing it for themselves then. Or maybe that's just my opinion. In the latter case, feel free to ignore it. ;)

What I meant by doing it for themselves is that they make it for themselves to enjoy, and to feel accomplished. They don't make a video because they have a great idea or need to express something, they make it for other people.

Says who? Flint you make great videos. Just because you don't have legions of fans doesn't mean there aren't a lot of people who really enjoy your work. If you don't want to make more videos that's one thing, but if you keep making them and don't upload them then I'll... Well, I won't do anything actually. But I'll be pissed!

You don't need a lot of effects to make a good video. So far I have used practically none but I cannot even count the hours I spent on my first video (mainly because I was learning all the programs.) Then after many months of work I started the video over from scratch to get better quality via the bait and switch method (from ErMaC and AD's guide which I followed religiously.) The point is that if you put a lot of effort into a vid and it is meaningful to you, then it's popularity doesn't matter because no matter how many people misinterpret it, you have created something meaningful, and some people will recognize that.

x f'n 2!

C'mon, you're seriously under-valuing your own work. Personally, I don't like making videos per se (as in, I don't like editing; I like what comes out of it), but the biggest joy for me is always making the video available. Not popular or anything, just available; so anyone interested in what I do can check it out.

And I assure you, there's definitely more than two people interested in your videos

And, in regards to meaning, it's ultimately the audient that is at the end of the creative process. Making a meaningful video for yourself is good; but making a video that can carry this meaning over to an outside person is where it really counts.

Though, me talking about this is odd considering how selfish an editor I generally am.
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

I understand that lots of people enjoy making videos. It has a lot of self gratification, but you can't tell me that when someone bashes your video it doesn't hurt just a little. Especially if you work hard on it. Sure there opinions are there to help (usually), but at the same time, they don't know how much work you put into it. I worked on my love hina vid for 3 months easy, just because it was hard to make some stuff work, but at the same time, I was happy with it, I submitted it thinking it was GREAT, then people reviewed it saying it was just ok and that it could've been a LOT better. It wasn't like it made me wanna quit videos, and the reviews did help me with the vid i'm making now, but it still hurt. Opinions aren't there to hurt feelings, that not what i'm saying at all, but thats beside the point, they still hurt, whether you admit it or not is a different story. Videos can be self gratifying yes, but you do want people to enjoy your work, if you don't thats great, but most people like a little praise for your HARD work, and if you don't get it, it does hurt.

They hurt if you let them, or the person flames you when they don't understand what's meant to be conveyed in the AMV.

Lol, thanks. ^_^ Well I don't know... I'm going to be making another video, but this one's going to be just for fun. After that, we'll see.

That's basically what I'm saying. But I mean... even for my videos, very few people had anything particularly bad to say, but few people really saw what I put into it and it was disheartening. I guess to stop uploading my videos would be silly...well, we'll see.
