Ghibli's All Around the World

Post by godix » Sat Feb 14, 2004 8:20 pm

I've just uploaded my last video to the org. It's a dance/effects video so if you don't like dance/effect videos just remember that I warned you ahead of time. The song is All Around The World by ATC and there are various animes, all of which are Studio Ghibli (Spirited Away, Totoro, Princess Mononoke amoung others in case you don't know who Studio Ghibli is). As always, suggestions for improvement are welcome. Especially since I've kept the original project files around and might do a touch up in the future when/if some of the obscure stuff becomes avalable in America so there's a decent chance that suggestions for improvement will actually get used sometime.

Thank you. I tried to get a different feel than most AMVs and I'm glad you liked the montage like effect.

very kule video and very different then from what i think most people would have expected, largely due to the special effects

your video reminds me of a couple things:

1- the constant timing with the bars reminds me of Koop's Damaged Rei-Mix
he did a similar effect around his border, very hypnotizing :P
2- THIS video, heh heh
3- the flame effect that looks like the effects on windows media player or winamp when you play an audio file, my friend J.Alana is doing a video that will have a very kule background in it too, though her's is going to be VERY complicated, but the same basic concept

Thank you, it's nice to know that I managed to achieve something different but interesting.

1) I owe Koop alot for this video although I don't think I've seen his damaged Rei-mix. Making sure I didn't rip off the most popular effect video around was always on my mind and there were several times I totally reworked parts because it turned out that I was just doing a Euphoria copy.

2) Other than both being tributes to Ghibli I can't see the similarities to Memories Dance. I'm honored you'd compare my video to it since Memories Dance is a great video but I just don't see the connection myself, we focused on two entirely different aspects of the movies.

3) The reason it looks like a winamp effect is because I captured, blurred, and faded a winamp effect. My original idea was to make the entire video look like an elaborate winamp vizualization that happened to have some anime in it. The result was too boring so that idea didn't last long, although I may try it again later, but some elements of it survived and the fire thing is one of them. I almost had some oscilliscopes in there as well but that was one of those 'too much like Euphoria' things.

I wish your friend luck, it's a lot harder than I originally thought to make a video with elaborate special effects and music sync while still keeping it enjoyable to watch. I ended up with lots of painstaking effects and tons of elaborate syncing that were boring as hell which is why 2/3rd the work I did never made it into the video.

1)yeah, copying other people is not a good way to go, but i didn't really see anything that reminded me of any one else's style, the visuals were just too different to be copied, good originality i suppose

2)there is no connection further than just that, the fact that so many of those anime were used and that they were all Ghibli films is all i was saying, i agree both have very different tones

3)she's already done with most of the background, she just has to work on most of the actual footage now, lol, she's even going for major lip-sync usage, you can definately bet that this will be special effect heavy

though i hope the effects aren't overwhelming, but i doubt they will be, to tell the truth, she's more of a fan of a video's direction and purpose than the presentation itself, so i'm sure she wouldn't let sparkly fx get out of hand, she's not exactly a seasoned veteran, but she's no amateur
