An important Question [how do you feel about bad reviews?]

Post by ash_wee_o » Wed Feb 25, 2004 5:29 pm

Okay, I know most of us beg for opinions, right? Well, what happens when someone comes along and leave you this awful, horribly mean, review? I just recently got a very unfair review from someone i've never before come into contact with. The guy wrote down that I shouldn't even make videos anymore. Correct me if i'm wrong, but no matter how bad someone may be at making videos, you do not have the right to say something like that. Making AMVs are fun, and i'm sure that alot of people would agree. But anyway, I just want to know what you would do about this. I know, there isn't really much i can do, but i really wanna know what you guys think.

Unless you're trying to pass off someone else's amv as your own, then no one has a right to tell you that you shouldn't do it anymore. If you're having fun, then it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks.

As for what to *do* about it - if the person gave you all 1s and no explanation for why you got those scores, then I've heard you can ask Phade to remove them. Otherwise, ignore it. Someone saw something they didn't like - that doesn't mean you should stop making them, just that the person should stop getting them from you.

Either way, just be glad it wasn't a review on this site (since your profile is empty) - it won't go on your record so no one has to know you were flamed except yourself - and it shouldn't matter to you so long as you're doing this to please yourself first.

Ignore it and keep making what you want to. After all, I doubt you make AMVs to please whoever gave that review so screw em.

I was wondering today about these things. Wouldn't some ops like this technically qualify for a personal attack, which on the forums usually results in deletion of the posts and the banning of the perpetrator?

So why is that not allowed in ops? Especially when there's a clear sentiment against the creator?

a question for the admins, I suppose

I thought this might be why I have heard stories of people asking Phade to delete some flaming reviews. But I don't know about banning - I've never heard from the people giving the reviews, just the ones asking for them to be deleted.

But I doubt it would do any good - most of the harshest and most blatant flames were made by people who hadn't even been a member long enough to download the vids they were flaming. Meaning either they were friends with someone and got the vid that way (for new vids), or they made the account just to flame. And unless they use the same IP, I don't think it's trackable - in which case a banning won't do much good. They'd just go to the library and flame from a new account. :?

Well, I'm not so much for the banning part as for the deletion part. I mean, posts with outward personal attacks don't stay on here. Or do they?

On the other hand, there's no thing such as bad publicity :)

:?

I tend to disagree with that stance, but that's a personal view.

For me, the key phrase here is:

The reviewer is reviewing himself/herself

Actually yes, if the opinion is clealry a personal attack, Phade can delete them if requested. I don't know about banning though.

I've received at least three clearly malicious opinions and Phade took care of it right away. They were clearly malicious since:

1) One of them gave ONE video in the top 10% all 10's and 30 others on the list all 1's. Clearly trying to bring that video up. Also no comments.
2) One clearly said they hadn't even seen my video and then proceeded to "rate it."
The third is...interesting.

I guess it's not a big deal that I've gotten 2-3 since I have 200 Opinions and that's ~1%. Not that bad I guess.
