I'm glad to see so many other families supportive of the hobby, but also like Beo am upset to see that so many are indifferent or even adamantly against it :-?.

Anyway, the best part is when I tell my mom I went to some convention that weekend and she asks if I won anything :-/ and when I don't, she gets all angry and thinks I should've won (even though she didn't see the other entries). The best was trying to explain AWA Masters. Yeah because I'm gonna win Masters my first year and on a video I didn't put that much effort into...oops, I guess I shouldn't have admitted that last part ;).

Not to say my mom thinks awards mean anything, but like any parent, they like seeing their kid win and always think they're "the best." *shrug* :)

I know my family wouldn't like it if they knew how much time I put into these things, but I also understand why.

AMV editing is a dead end and a massive time sink for someone planning to do research in some CS-related field. What is learning how to butcher -- er sorry edit[/I[ -- someone else's work going to do for me? Nothing.

I'm still going to do it, though. I guess I'm self-destructive like that. *shrug*

'tis a hobby. Not everything has to "further your career" and so on. Some things are just outlets for creativitya nd so forth.

Wow, you're five times more angsty then usual. Is it that time of month? ;)

*sigh*

Well, I'm certainly glad for people who are supported in what they do. As for me... I just had a (verbal) fight over AMV's with my dad :|
And he not only rejected my hobby as anything good, but he called it illegal (not unreasonably?) and furthermore, rejected (!) hobbies in general as a luxury for the 'idle rich'. :?

My saving grace is that I'm almost 20, not 12; so it's not so easy to stop me, and now (in a somewhat immature fashion), I think I'll be editing more, partially out of spite.

/pityful :(
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

LOL! x2

the amount of times people have asked me if I actually CREATED the anime itself...I have said yes at least twice.
I'm bored and you're dumb. A match made in heaven.

The best effects are the ones you don't notice.

even though i haven't actually FINISHED any of my vids (I;m a perfectionist--if i don't like where a vid is going, and i feel the concept's dead, i trash the entire thing, mostly, and restart it) I DO edit. My mom.... doesn't know enough about computers to care. My dad knows I know how to edit videos. Neither of them have ever seen an amv though. they're rather conservative. )They flipped out when i wanted to wear a bikini at age 12. Friends is porn. Nudity is satan. Swearing is evil.) Yeah.... so I don't show them amvs. They'd flip out at some of the more conservative outfits.

My baby sister on the other hand, has seen some of the amvs. I "accidentally minimize" them at some points, because she's so little.... ok, maybe not that little... but she's my baby sister! What else am I supposed to do? Anyway, but her and her little friends like watching amvs. I think the only one I've ever shown them all the way through is the "hamster dance" one. This is for two reasons: 1) they don't have a long enough attention span for anything else, and 2) they all are obsessed with hamtaro.

Bottom line: parents-don't know, and i plan to keep it that way
sister- loves the hamster video, could care less about editing.

:-\ so i'm basically on my own when it comes to video making. SOunds like i'm not the only one.

My parent doesn't know, they never saw me editing and I never showed them any of my work.

My friends think it's cool. Most often they ask me to make video as present for their gf or something using their fav song, a few had me to teach them to make one. So far, two of my friends had accomplished their own video, which makes me feel proud ^^
