Which do you prefer; the Inu-Yasha Anime or Manga?
I for one prefer the Anime. The manga is good, but nothing can beat that Anime man. 8)

Kikyo's a little harsher, a little less human in the manga. After the 3rd season of IY, the show pretty much caught up to the manga, so from that point on the show is a bit slower and contains more filler. I'm sure the last 4 seasons of the show must have been difficult and frustrating to make, the creators not even knowing what is going to happen to the show week by week (instead of having a script prepared long in advance).
But for the most part, they are about as identical as I have seen any manga/anime. Give credit to the anime makers for keeping it accurate to the manga, especially in these very difficult circumstances where deviation from the manga is an extremely viable and almost neccessary option (yet they have made the decision to make sacrifices and wait on RT's words instead).
I like RT, a lot, but her drawing style looks like testing sketches, almost as if she was going to go in later in smooth out her characters but then never gets around to it. I'm sure in Japan this is considered very beautiful, as japanese aesthetics value asymmetry, imperfection, and the ability to see how something was made by looking at it. I personally prefer the anime just because characters appear cleaner, more "anime-ish" for lack of a better term, and just look more handsome/pretty in general IMO.
As far as content however, its no secret that the TV show is a huge success and has been airing in primetime in Japan for years now. This means content has been dumbed down so that all ages (including small children) can enjoy IY. The story of IY can be very mature, but the televised version has to encorporate many silly and immature elements to appeal to teens and even pre-teens, the most desired demographic for advertisers. I think its a shame that IY the anime does this; cut out the kiddyness and some of the gratuitious sillyness and I think IY has a shot at being one of the greatest animes of all time. I kind of wish the show had waited until the manga's completion, then made the entire show (which is still running @_@) in 3-4 seasons, no filler, no excess sophmoricness, no repeating information 3-6 times (literally), just a nice compact show that focuses on telling the juiciest parts of its storyline.
Well anyway... /rant

The show passed the manga after episode 40. Takahashi has worked really slowly on the manga and the producers of the show left her in the dust. The show ends at 150 and if it has a good ending then it's the best thing ever put under Rumiko takahashis name.

I like both too, but the anime and the manga certainly aren't the same! For one, there are some Inu/Kag romance moments that never show up in the anime and vice versa. Also, Kikyo is MUCH more evil in the anime than the manga. In the anime, when she's first brought back, she shoves her sister Kaede to the ground! Then in a later episode she openly admits trying to kill Kagome and laughs about it. Neither happened in the manga. In the manga, you almost feel more sorry for Kikyo. Almost.
Yeah, the anime passes the manga all the time. The reason there are so many fillers is because they have to let the manga get ahead of the anime before they can get on with the story since about three or four chapters of the manga can fit into a single episode. Well, that's my two cents.

Yep, I've only read volume 1 so far, but oy...it's basically word for word of the dubbed.Trident wrote:Considering the fact that for the first six volumes of the manga (at least) there doesn't seem to be any difference whatsoever... meh.
I suppose I like them both. The manga's art is just so damn cute, and well the anime features some of my fave seiyuus...meh I suppose I'll have a more definate opinion once I read some further volumes.

[i] well i like them both, i think Rumiko Takahashi-san did a great job on manga both art and story, but i guess its just somthing diffrent to see the characters move and to hear the voices (not to mention the anime is alot easyer to make a AMV out of
