Well, considering you're a marine you'd end up getting a tatoo anyway, might as well be of something you like rather than the cliche bulldogs and skulls and funky patterns.
Exactly.

Dumb like "I define my existence thru anime" dumb. Tattoos are permanent. I have three, myself. If you're gonna get a tattoo, make sure that each one defines you, and isn't a slogan for something that you like. I've got kanji's of Order and Chaos on me, to describe my own personal dichotomy. My boy James, he's got every significant event of his life recorded on his back in kanji. I think he's crazy.
But anime? think about it. seventy years from now, when you croak, you're gonna have a cartoony pic of some fire-breathing lizard on your gut?

Thus ends my hate parade.
i totaly agree with you that tattoos shud be a reflection of ur own personality.... i have a 1 tattoo of a Lions head that means alot to me,
as its a sign of being British and showing my loyalty to the queen & country.
mmm but ur opinion of Anime tattoos being stupid.... if something means alot to you, how can u say thts stupid... personly im planing on designing my own tattto as Moonlight Soldier mentioned tht way it will be original and unique.

lol and wtf is up with ppl always saying -
" oh when ur older you'll regret it " hmm
alrite im 18 and have a long time be4 im old but geZz, the way i see it if u do end up regreting it you can always just get them lazzer'd off... but im sure i neva will. unless i get completely pissed one night and get a tattoo of something like... a hamster or something..

Getting a tatoo of an anime character definitely seems a bit odd. Seriously, are you still gonna want that thing when you're 70?

Yohji from WK has an interesting tattoo...it's a cross with nails in it and SIN above it in big nails. I think that's it, anyway.

Why not get some nice kanji tattoo? Much simpler, much nicer. That's what I plan to do.

Hey, man, for me, Anime is a passing phase. As technology increases and the advent of improved CG (Blood: The last Vampire, GITS 2 Innocence, Animatrix, Advent Children) and the line between determining what's CG and what's not blurs indefinitely, animation as we know it with cells and simple forms is going the way of the ISA slot. I see in the future a hazy line where people won't be able to tell the difference between Animation and real life. I read a story where there was a fight between network executives and the public, because they wanted to delete their virtual Anchorwoman, and nobody liked that idea. Now, that's purely science fiction, but it seems like we're moving in that direction. Give over, man, cartoony tats are dumb. Originality is cool, but how can you say that it's original if it's based off an anime character? Shinji is still shinji, no matter what pose you put him in.

If you want ink, make sure it's you, through and through, and not something you won't want five years from now. Don't look 50 years into the future. Look at it as 3, or 5 years. I got mine in 2000, and I'm questioning them now. Did I choose the right thing in getting Order and Chaos represented in Kanji on my back? If I have kids (That I know of, god knows there's a STRONG chance that there's plenty out there that I don't know of) how will I explain it to them? Can I work in a business professional environment if I have tattoos on me? There's a ton of valid questions that go into this kind of thing. If you're going to do this, don't be a fucking retard.

Anime defines the majority of myself right now, and probably will be a significant part of my life for the next 10-15 years, if not longer.
Nestorath69 wrote:But anime? think about it. seventy years from now, when you croak, you're gonna have a cartoony pic of some fire-breathing lizard on your gut?
One, I wouldn't get one on my gut, that's kinda stupid place to get one, really. Two, most tattoos will be covered by whatever clothes they put on you for burial(or cremation, which removes all signs of a tattoo). And once I'm dead, what do I care if there's a tattoo on my body or not? I'm dead.
Yukina_Raven wrote:Also, I don't like the gaint ones people sometimes get. They look good in the beginning, but after awhile, they don't look so hot.
I'll agree on that, I never liked the big ones much. Harder to hide/be unoticed too.

Cels, yes, they will eventually fade I imagine. But the style, that's going to hold on for a good time yet. I mean, video games can be rendered in extremely lifelike quality, yet someone went and invented cel-shading. And it's fairly popular. We have a while yet.

Oh, and about ISA slots: Funny that I saw a motherboard the other day, new one in a store...with some ISA slots. Yeah, they went away, all right.

I know I don't really care if it's original or not. Having an anime tattoo in itself is on the unique side, though(how many do you see in life compared to non-anime tats?). Plus, I personally just want one of something/someone I like. That's all.

And Lum is Lum. She's still hot, period. :D

Same way you explained it to us: "I've got kanji's of Order and Chaos on me, to describe my own personal dichotomy."

Just tell them why you got them. It isn't too hard, usually about a sentence or two per tat. If there's some very deep meaning, tell them that too. They'll either think it interesting/cool or get bored and never question the tattoos again.

Nestorath69 wrote:Can I work in a business professional environment if I have tattoos on me?
Tattoo on your face/neck? Your hands? No? Then "professional" clothing can cover it up anywhere besides those.
Nestorath69 wrote:There's a ton of valid questions that go into this kind of thing.
Agreed. That's why I decided to get one eventually 2 years ago, and haven't yet, cause I'm making sure I have exactly what one I want, no regrets.

Now then. I am planning on getting at least one, probably on my upper arm(easily showable or hideable). It will be a Lum tattoo, decided that already. Still picking out a pose.

Oh, I certainly plan to. Might even get a second sometime, though I have no idea what it would be.

Anyway, I've read all these same arguments anytime the subject anime tattoos(or any type of tattoo for that matter) comes up, and decided to put my opinion out for once. I feel better now, having done that.
