Look I used 3.
Kusoyaro: We don't need a leader. We need to SHUT UP. Make what you want to make, don't make you what you don't want to make. If neither of those applies to you, then you need to SHUT UP MORE.

I have always shown my videos to others before sending them out "into the world." Not many others, but others I can trust to tell me if something should be changed. One of my videos died on the timeline without ever being exported because my friends just weren't impressed by it. I may go back to it eventually, but not until I have a better inspiration.
Input from firends (or peers, or both) can help you make a better video, and should be used whenever possible.
I admit, I am a beat sync and lyric sync junkie. I match things much too exactly and literally to the lyrics, but I just can't help it. When the lyrics mention a blowing wind, I need to show a character being blown by the wind... Not very artistic, but that's how I picture it, so that's how I edit it. If I can get my story told that way, it's alright, but I'll probably never be one of the "big names" in AMV for this very reason.

Okay, I'm sorry about this, but I sent this post to my friend and he about slapped me upside the head.
About Rule 3: Opinion:
Rules 1 and 2 are the SAME RULE.
Rule 2 is "Makes you change your opinion of the anime." This is actually one of the first rules we hammered out so I'm surprised I missed it. To achieve this, you need a unique story. Something that most people would have missed during the anime. Maybe it's not even something that's IN the canon anime, but you can put together scenes that support your opinion. "Ballad of Yui Hongo" is my prime example. After we watched it, we both said "Well, that BITCH!" It *changed our opinion*.
I thought I missed something. I'd have loved to edit my post, but it doesn't seem to allow it. :\

) I seem to have managed to use it by mistake in a couple scenes, though. And whoever said that is insane for that exact reason.
Some will say that the only opinion that really matters is yours. That's fine too. But a lot of the time, if you get someone else to help you with it, by pointing out scenes and other things that are "off", you'll see that YOU as well thought that was off. It's like having someone else proofread your stories. You've been working on the thing so long that you're blind to some of the issues. Stuff can be staring you in the face and you won't notice.

Which, mind you, is exactly what I said in my description of Beatsync.downwithpants wrote:What I call beat synch is matching elements of action to specific notes and sounds in the music (like a gunshot in the video or a cut transition matched to a percussion/bass instrument beat, or a fade transition on a drum roll).
Yeah, I was trying to get at that. It's not as hard or as obvious of a rule as the three I put forward, but it tends to follow from the others. "Wordsync" is probably the closest I come to this one.downwithpants wrote:Another form of synch that I think you're trying to get at is mood synch. Mood being the emotion that the music is trying to portray. Beat synch is more of getting the frame of impact in the video to fall on the same fraction of a second as the entrance of the note you're trying to synch it too. Mood synch is choosing a sequence of video scenes that correlate with the mood of the music.
Wow. I agree with you on lipsync being hard to do in a serious video - which is why I didn't use it at all in His and Her Iris. (Which is unfinished. Be patient.SarahTheBoring wrote:Though I'd echo something someone said a while back - I think it was mexicanjunior, though I'm not sure - that it's very, VERY hard to make lipsync not look ridiculous in a serious video. There are exceptions, as with anything, but I am solidly against the idea that "all good AMVs have lipsync"
Heh. Exactly. And if someone says that, you can ask them why and what could be done better, and touch it up. Rather than begging for opinions here. I'm not saying that ops here aren't a good tool as well, but they shouldn't be your first tool for determining what's wrong with your video. Run it by a couple friends, tweak and tweak... then send it to the .org and see what the ops are.Leanan wrote:I used to never use #3. I think I might, though. I'm just always afraid someone is going to say, "OMG that completely sucks!" Hehe. Then again I guess it is better to hear that from one person than the entire .org.

screw the entire opinions.People have found to many ways of manipulating it for them to be reliable. Besides id argue that sync be "rule" 2 because without a concept how do you know what your syncing to.
For the most part though there's 2 paths you can take when your a good creator. You can be loved worshiped and board Or relevent interesting and totally ignored.

This has no relevence to the discussion above it

I beg to differ. You can have no concept, and just have a lot of really cool effects and perfect sync, and be at least semi-decent. Concept *can* save you but it's hard; sync is essential either way. Good concept does not save horrible sync, but good sync can save horrible concept. Hence, sync #1.Sephiroth wrote:id argue that sync be "rule" 2 because without a concept how do you know what your syncing to.
I'm not really sure what you're getting at here. I assume you mean "bored", not "board", and I don't think the two are a "choice". (Much like the other topic hanging around right now about "originality" vs "execution".) Usually people that are relevant and interesting are also loved and worshipped, and I think that if you're bored making a video it will show - also, if you're not having fun doing the video you probably shouldn't be making it. Isn't the whole point of this to have fun? Yeah, it's fun when everyone else likes your video, but I don't think you should work at it if it's not enjoyable. (Some ASPECTS may not be enjoyable, but if the overall experience is, it's okay.)For the most part though there's 2 paths you can take when your a good creator. I generally try to follow all of those rules, except I have some trouble with the final points. While I have shown my videos to other people before releasing them, I really don't know anyone personally who could offer any good comments or suggestions for editing. I could ask someone online, but I don't really know anyone here very well either.
This one is kind of problem for me right now since I just finished up a beta for my next video, and while I am very satisfied with how most of it came out, some of it has some obvious filler content. I would like to get someone to look at it and offer suggestions on how to fix it, but I don't know anyone to show it to.
