Cartoon or Anime???

Alrighty, just a question, i know this guy he loves anime so much he decided to start his own story *is currently writing it and getting it copyrighted as i speak* He's even got the backwards japanese manga thing going on, just no pictures *not at all an artist* and its all in english...soo his plans are to take it further and make an anime out of it...but being an American and starting out in english in the first place, could it really be considered an anime or is it just another load of crap american cartoon.....

First off, not all American animation is crap. Sure... a lot of it is, but I really do dislike all this stuff made by Americans that is desperately trying to be anime.

However, you're talking to a guy who's been trying to do his own comic book (and I'm a writer as well)... and while my stuff isn't anime at all, I can tell you that your friend has some awfully big plans and he's going to run into a lot of disappointment along the way. It's taken me years and years just to get where I am and there's still no certainty if my book will ever get published... the thought of it being animated isn't even something I want to think about.

If he plans to have it animated, that means it will be animated through a studio... and that costs big $$$. I mean... assuming he's going to do this himself... *cough*

If he goes through a studio, he has to sell them on the idea... and there's a big chance he'll lose all creative control on his stuff in the process.

I think your friend need to take things one, long, slow step at a time and to be prepared for the ocean of problems he's going to face.

I should know.

However... with that said, he should certainly try. If he believes in his story and what he's doing... and he's willing to put in the effort... well... then that's more than many are willing to do.

I would say that the friends creation would not be considered an anime, just another cartoon ... just my opinion. But i still wish him luck on his long and tidious adventure ...
