Problem with DVD Drive

Post by Platinum_Anime_Production » Thu Feb 05, 2004 7:42 am

Hi, I have recently bought a DVD drive for the computer for AMV's, I am using though to watch DVD's InterVideo WinDVD 4, first day or 2 no probloems, everything read fine, ripped fine, everything, but lately when I put a DVD in InterVideo says it can't detect a CD-ROM or DVD device and my other DVD players (Windows DVD Player, Maximus DVD) when they play DVDs are choppy, they drop a few frames and repeat some and it is VERY annoying, (even DVD Decrypter doesn't work now) I have tried everything from reinstalling the drive to cleaning the discs...

If there is anything that anyone can help me with here, help would be very GREATLY appreciated!

P.S: My O/S is WinME

How do you have the DVD connected? I'm assuming it's IDE, if that's correct then you should not put it on a channel with a HD. If it is on the same cable as a hard drive then you run into exactly the type of problems you're describing when the computer is trying to access the HD and the DVD at the same time.

sounds like the drive itself may be flaky.

Did you install anything else after the drive? Any software that might have caused a conflict? That's what's caused many of my recent drive problems... unless the drive itself really is bad. Try exchanging it if you haven't installed any new software. Any store should exchange a defective drive (unless you bought it online, in which case, good luck).
