I saw Spirited Away during Vacation in Tenesse deep in the mountains were rented a Chalet (a 3 story cabin with pool table, jacuzzi, hot tub, 5 bathrooms, tons of rooms, it was the life) with my sister. It was pretty cool.

At MY school, we call it the "Media Center" but we call the "librarians"..."Library Nazis". We also call our hall monitors "The Gestapo"

You haven't been reading the notes here...

Anyway, it is a masterwork of animation. It takes on a very fairy-tale like story and some people badmouth it since the story centers on a young girl. They say "it's just a kid's film"... but first off, I always have troubles with the word "just"

after all... what's so great about a diamond? It's JUST a rock.

and what's wrong with family films? When they are done right, they can be as entertaining as anything else...

From Studio Ghibli alone we have:
Kiki's Delivery Service
Whispers of the Heart
The Cat Returns
My Neighbor Totoro
Castle in the Sky: Laputa

All of them great films...

Spirited Away is an excellent film. It is an excellent family film. It is an excellent anime. It is a first rate title.

See, this is typical of the negative comments on Spirited Away.

"The characters were boring and stupid."

Haku? Boring?
No Face? Boring?
Chihiro? Stupid?

"I didn't find the story good..."

Apparently, you're not that keen on writing skills either.

"...and there was like no action in the whole thing."

Apparently, unless there's gun play and explosions, the anime has no action and is therefore a drag to have to watch.

So... if you share this person's view that any anime that forces you to pay attention rather than simply placate you with explosions and fight scenes is a boring anime, then you won't like Spirited Away...

however... like it or not, it is still a masterpiece of animation.

You forgot to put Princess Mononoke~ Another epic movie directed by Hayao Miyazaki (and Studio Ghibli).
Er... Spirited Away is a good film but I didn't really look at it as a children's film. It was too long and the story line was confusing for any child to sit through (my cousins fell asleep... I was rather insulted).
