Anywyas, I'm not a big collector and hey if I get to see the series, I don't care very much....the DVD's were good enough for me.

I was very suspcious of the Kenshin DVD Box Set I got since parts of the subtitles was missing and thier was a strange ringing sound at times when the DVD played

I have a good friend who lived in China for 5 years as a kid, back when Hong Kong still belonged to Britain. Her mother was with the Uruguyan embassy and they were there when Hong Kong was returned to China. They moved to the US after that though.

How can you tell the difference b/w bootlegs and the real thing? It can't just be the price difference.

madmag just listed several ways, also bootlegs are often on region free disks. (While official American releases will be region 1.)

from what people told me, the box covers and the DVD picture.

The picture for the DVD's I got thier was picture perfect though.

Seeing as how im the top supporter of the mafia in china i felt i had to add to the thread. Dont worry about how to tell if its bootleg or not, it doesnt matter, same show, same quality, same extra's, same everything...atleast for me, ive heard stories of bad bootlegs but have never seen this myself so meh.

The DVD picture is not really picture perfect, sure it might look okay on a TV if it's a descent job, but its shown at a lower resolution (thats how they fit so many eps on one disk). If you popped that thing in your computer you could really see a difference.

shit yea i forgot abotu the reagon free. hopefully a mod will make a sticky thread about bootlegs vs real like i asked.

yea some bootlegs are high quality and look real but if u go to a store first and check out the real deal then go online and look for it u will see the diff

Actually I do most of my "anime" watching on my computer since I can't read the subtitles from my couch in the living room.

The picture still looks fine to me.

we arent saying its bad quality all the time. some bootlegs are good. all we are saying is if ur gone spend the money buy the real thing unless u dont mind crushing the anime industry and supporting the slave trade

hell im not big collector the only animes i bough is samuri x and cowboy bebop. all the other stuff i aquierd for free from the interweb. im not hurting or supporting anyone becouse i didnt like the shows enough to spend $100's on them plus most fan subs are taped of tv and then subed and stuff so i dont think im really hurting the industry im just not helping it
