Canadians!!!! [Tech TV Canada not airing anime]

Post by vyper28 » Sat Jan 31, 2004 12:47 am

Ok heres the deal. I get TechTV, and while looking to see this "anime unleashed" i was dissapointed to find that the Candian version of TechTV doesnt air Anime. The reason? Our own CRTC. For some reason our laws that are supposed to be protecting our own brodcasts are dissalowing TechTV and almost every other station from airing Anime. Ive Emailed the CRTC requesting some information on this aspect of the CRTC. Apperently TechTV has been told they cannot air anything not directly related to Technology. I posted this in the General Anime Catagorey because i dont mean to isolate the aspect just to TechTV or To any specific anime. What i do want, is to hear any suggestion from any of the Candian members (or anyone else for that matter). I find it hard to accept the fact that laws meant to protect our own viewing rights, are doing the oppisite in this case. Ontop of that, im runing outta anime, and its RIDIDULOUSLY expensive in Canada. i cant afford the $40 per DVD. Im feeling anime withdrawl... GAHHHHH

$40 ?!?!??! just how bad is the canadian dollar ? and if ya cant watch it on tv, thiers allways BT, P2P and IRC where you could find all the fansubs you could want. ok so its piracy and image quality aint as good as dvd, plus some people hate sub's. but still, when its the only viable option then well, ya gota do what ya gota do

yeah, $40 is about the price

The canadian dollar is right now about 3/4 of the American value
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

yeah thats the same with the aussie dollar. but here most anime dvd's are $30. $40 seems to kinda be overdoing it alot. at that price the only reasonable option is to save up and buy box sets

Theres always buying online. I dont know about prices though. I've never tried to convert American into Canadian Dollars before. I know that http://www.discountanimedvd.com has decent prices, another place you could check out is http://www.animenation.com. But like i said before i dont know abotu the converstion rate and what its gonna do to the total price .. then shipping into canada .. more taxes there :?

Vyper, it depends from which company you're buying from. Anime for me ranges from about $25-50/dvd, so I can relate ~_~ Usually Pioneer and Bandai are about $40-50, but ADV/Media Blasters/Software Sculptors are about$25-30....

Other than that I really can't comment about Tech TV considering I have no cable. I just mess with my bunny ears to get the Kids WB and Fox if I'm really in need of watching dubbed anime, ~_~ I don't do that very often. :P

ug buying, online WOULD be my methods, except im only 18..... you need to be 19 in B.C. to get a license. My parents cant co-sign for personal matters. Right now im spinning an itricate web of possiblities that could work out for the best! You see, my freind, has a mom.... and this mom... has a movie rental place... and this place... can get like any movie... soooo... if they order it and i pay them, i can get anime!!!! If this doesnt work, im gonna shoot myself. But dont worry, ive watched enough Kenshin to be fast enought to dodge the bullet, and enough X to know how to block it with my superpowers, and enough DragonBall Z to sit there, making constapated sounds for about 12 hours worth of episodes, all so i can shoot a little ball of light at the bullet..........

hmmm no anime on techTV ... oh well no tears shed here ... it's not like i've actualy watched TV in months anyways. For me i usualy just download things, and if i like them i put them on my shopping list ... however having cable internet has led to me having an awfully long shopping list in a fairly short time. But the dvd prices suck ... i'll give you that.
