My first con was Otakon 10 (2003). My father took the whole family, minus my mother, plus Cyanna.

I've got a lot to say about it, but it's too much to remember right now.

I will say, though, that my dad took a picture of the screen in Video Room 1 when the title screen for my video came up, and he doesn't mind including it in a big ol' binder full of various family pix that gets shown to friends and relatives.

I spent a long time after that whining about the audio balance in Video 1, but Matt later offered a formal blanketed apology here on the Org forums, and I'm glad to have even made the finals, so all is good.

I should have said that, while he doesn't mind, I mind immensely.

It was my first con as well. I had an absolute BLAST. Seriously, I've never had that much fun in one weekend (except in Disney World).

At the time I was just getting into anime and had not seen much (not even NGE, though I had read so much about it I was able to fool people into thinking I was a fan) so I didn't feel the need to go into it full force. I didn't wear a costume. I wasn't in a contest or even just to show off something. I didn't own any anime/manga. I never had Pocky.

Well I left with some Love Hina and I did get my first taste of Pocky thanks to a Gendo I was sitting next to at the cosplay. Next time I go, I may even dress up for the heck of it. Nothing impressive or anything. Just something fun. :)

I know that there are people who say that Otakon 2003 wasn't as good as some of the others. But if THAT wasn't a "good" con then I'd love to see what is. Even as a non-quite-anime fan, I just had so much fun.

I actually got my husband to cosplay of his own free will (A day to record in the annuals of history I tell you!) I cosplayed the whole weekend..got to meet lots of people from the org ^^ as well as see some great AMV's and projects like the NES project. Would have spent a ton of cash in the dealers room had my credit card not gotten jacked up because of the hotel... ><. And can't wait to go to the next one!

Yep, I'll go to the Sakura-con this year, If my grades are in the right mood.(Bs)

And this made me laugh...
You know its out there: the dreaded smell of unwashed bodies. At Sakura-Con, it's called H.O.B.O: Horrible Otaku Body Odor. We here at Sakura-Con have declared the convention a "No H.O.B.O. Zone. " To enforce that, we have provided a checklist that will help you keep that smell to an absolute minimum, and your Con experience will be much more pleasant. Please remember to bring these things with you!
Check it out! My Screename is in there!

First Con: Anime Boston 2003. My first AMV contest, which was the inspiration for the jump in quality that you see between my first two videos and everything's that's come after. Running the AMV Panel with Ashyukun was fun as well, and we're making that a recurring trend. Meeting Tiffany Grant *squee!*.

My family (parents and sister, it'd worked out so that this was the weekend that I had to return to school, so everyone came up for the con and we dropped me off across the state on Sunday) had these deer-in-the-headlights looks for the entire weekend. Even after my parents had insisted that "Oh, we've seen Trekkies, this should be nothing." Buahahahahahaha.

Good times, good times. Despite the fact that I live in Philadelphia, I still count AB as my home con. I'm co-hosting three panels this year and participating in a fourth, and despite the fact that I'll have just returned from Tokyo (knock on wood) next April, I'm still planning on heavily participating in AB2005 in May. Unfortunately, in 2006 when I'll be finishing my thesis work, I may not be able to stay for the whole weekend...
