The Best Way to watch Macross Plus is to watch EPS 1 - 3 of the OAV and then watch the last 30 mins of the Movie.
Everything I felt was missing in the 4th ep of the OAV was actually there in the end of the movie...
the movie is fine... but there isn't enough time for the amount of character development we get in the OAVs...
The whole thing is one of the better Anime titles out there...
It is very well written
It is beautifully animated
It has a score by Yoko Kanno
Hell... it's the same team that went on to make Cowboy Bebop...
which is another one of the best anime titles out there...
I have only good things to say about Macross Plus.
You can't really call Sharon a bitch... Sharon is a computer... she was loaded with the emotions of Myung, who was really torn up inside... all Sharon became was just a computer unable to handle the complicated emotions of human beings. That's why I loved the scene in the movie at the end, when we see the burnt out computer and hear Sharon wondering if she had been able to give Isamu what he wanted... and declaring her love before she shorted out...
Myung realized that Sharon was just a computer trying to deal with the illogical nature of human emotion... and thanks to Sharon, Myung realized who she was and was able to fix her own life...
Guld is also a sad character. He wants nothing more than to protect Myung... but protection is the last thing she needs... it keeps her from growing, but Guld can't understand that. Guld is a noble person, but when he snaps and attacks Myung (he never does actually rape her as far as I can tell... but almost doing so is bad enough) its too much guilt for him... and he is unable to admit he did it... thus the reasignment... Guld's death is such a painful ordeal (especially if you watch the movie)... he dies shooting down the Ghost and finds attonement for himself. It's really quite moving.
The whole show is an amazing piece of work...

There are two kinds of people in this world:
Those who divide people into two kinds of groups
and those who don't.
