i think people have trouble seperating reality from games/movies because so much of modern society is based around the internet where is impossible to know what is real and what is fake.

Actually, it's very possible.

The problem is not associated with the internet much if you ask me. I think it's a historical and cultural problem that's been around for a long time. The western society seems to inherently place entertainment close to reality, and not use separate judgement for the two. Plus, most people are by nature prone to suggestability and a lack of good-natured response to creativity; a sad but true fact of life.
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

In addition to the general media oriented violence that everyone is exposed to, it depends how you approach it. For example, being completely sheltered from violence can be worse than constant exposure. The problem lies not only with the violence itself but with how people deal with it and explain it to the younger generation.

I myself don't mind violence in anime, in general it depends on what I'm watching and its target audience. For example, I would be more disturbed seeing crazy violence in something 3+ than something like X the movie, an R rated movie with the tag line of being one of 'an orgy of blood and violence'.

i think you have a point. everyone is different and reacts differently to violence whether in anime or movies. i the problem is that people try to group everyone together.

My sentiment exactly...I actually watch a considerable amount of anime that can be considered violent, and a lot of the stuff I write is rather violent, but I don't like it if it's gratuitous. It's hard to get used to it if you're a newbie (my first reaction: "OH MY GOD!!! BLOODY CARTOONS!!!") but you adapt.

Micro-suck makes me mad!

Anime and violence. I was thinking about what anime has done to me since I started watching it. Firts off, I used to squirm when ever violence came on the screen. But for some reason, anime liberated me from that (Not saying thats a good thing though). I also used to be bald, and sensetive. But now, I have a cool anime wig (Blue of course), and I woulden't even cry if every one around me died in some "rapture-ific" explosian of crosses (Thank you evangelion).

I have to agree with the ppl who are saying they like a story with their violence. An anime is just weak if it has no reason behind the gore. I happen to feel the same way about "fan Service". I hate it when they take the las episode of a perfectly good show, and turn it into a porno. It has to be a porno right from the start, or not at all, other wise I tend to look down on all the charactors.
