What manga/show/movie [got you into anime?]

Post by LordSesshoumaru » Mon Jan 19, 2004 3:04 pm

Sorry but I didn't want to have a super long subject so I cut it off. My question is what manga, show, or movie really sucked you into the world of japanimation?

When I was 11 the Sci-Fi channel held a "Japanime Saturday Matinee" every Saturday morning. The very first movie I ever saw was Vampire Hunter D then Demon City Shinjuku. It's been 9 years since then and my love for japanime continues to grow. So I was curious to know how everyone else first crossed paths with it! :)

Well, back in high school i had a friend who was into anime and he would tell me and a couple of my other friends about the anime series that he just baught and had. So one day he let me borrow one of them, i think it was Amazing Nurse something mission. Well i liked it so thats when i started to like anime. But since i didnt have to much money to buy anything back in high school because i knew my parent would say that anime is only for little kids and not buy me any. I had to wait till recently to get back into anime since i have more money to spend on it. Since high schoool, the fist anime series that i saw was Love Hina and now my collection is growing... u can see on my profile wat anime series i want and have seen.

I started watching Sailor Moon when I was eight, though at the time I had no idea what 'anime' was, I just thought it was better than all the other 'Saturday Morning Cartoons' at the time. Though once I started getting into anime, I started out watching things like Ninja Scroll. Ninja Scroll was probably the first anime movie I watched knowing it was anime. Since then I've delved into just about every genre which is obvious given all the titles in my anime collection. Oh and I've discovered the joys of uncut Sailor Moon and it's kick ass manga story 8)

I'll agree with you on Sailor Moon. I just recently bought the first season uncut on dvd and let me say it makes a lot more since and some of the episodes have me rolling on the floor laughing. The first time I saw it the company DIC did all the dubbing. And just let me say they totally f***ed it up. There were so many episodes missing it was hard to keep track. Now I have the dvds and I watch them in japanese with english subtitles. It's 10 times better. :D I also like the manga. I'm currently trying to find them. I have the first four. There aren't many places in SC that sell them so I'll probably have to turn to e-bay. :)

The first season is notably different just about everwhere! I can't watch the dub anymore, the dub edit is just terrible. The manga just keeps getting better, honesly the superS arc, is sooooo cool. I have the whole collection of Sailor Moon manga. SuperS is probably my favourite part of the manga which says a lot because it's my least favourite series arc for the anime. Nephrenia acts as a much better character and Chibi-Usa is much less irritating. Seriously if you find them, get them. They rock.

Right now I'm working on collecting the third and fourth seasons uncut. I really want to see S uncut but I'm having a horrible time finding the dvds

Hmm... Eva was the first series I watched completely (a friend told me about it and another friend and I marathoned it over Labor Day weekend almost two years ago), but the series that got me to actively watch anime was Kenshin, which I watched in its entirety over the month of December that same year. It all went downhill from there. :P

The S is my favorite arc. Sometimes I HATE how Rini steals the show from Serena. For goodness sake it's Sailor Moon not Sailor Chibi Moon! *Sighs* but I guess she does add some comic relief especially when her and Serena are together!

:D I LUV Kenshin. Isn't Aoshi-sama hot!!! I like Himura Kenshin but I like the Battousai even better. Have you seen any of the OVA movies?
