x2 ... u cant force them to like anime. But like wat Morpheus said in the Matrix, I can only show u the door, but u have to make the decision to walk through it ... that applies to anime and everything in life. We can only show a person, but its their decision on where to watch o not, or watever the situation is. 8)pyro_256 wrote:why not just let the person be if they don't like anime? if they really don't want to watch it, you shouldn't try to make them.

No, you indeed can't make someone like anime... but at least you can take away the prejudice.
And if I had to make a suggestion... show her Princess Mononoke. The dub is great, and if there's something I've learned from anime, it's that you can't say I like this genre/I like that genre... etc.
I mean, I used to be a hardcore cyberpunk fan. Until I watched Princess Mononoke. Then I realised that genre has zilch to do with making a movie interesting or good, it's the quality of the movie itself. I mean, eventhough I like cyberpunk, I absolutely hated Spriggan. The plot was worked out so hooribly.
So jeah, show her Princess Mononoke. I'd say it's an excelent gateway into (serious) anime. You might even get her to like fantasy.

When she said that anime is just cartoons, why don't you try to let her watch an anime that is serious and doesn't have a lot of comedy parts. It doesn't have to be a whole series, maybe just a movie.
I don't know, but what do you think about Rurouni Kenshin - Tsuiko Hen OVA? I know it has some gory parts........ ok, a lot of gore really, but it is serious and has a nice love story.
Try it, you won't lose anything, if she didn't like it, try something else.
Just my opinion.

Yeah, maybe since she thinks that anime is a "cartoon", maybe showing her a serious anime series would change her mind set. Hummm ... a series anime series or movie .... I would say cowboy bebop, Knocking on heavens doors, that was pretty deep, especially at the end when .... i wont get into it. Well yeah, just look for some series anime series o movie and im sure she will not think anime is just any ordinary cartoon, it goes deeper than that...

True true, anime IS a cartoon, but wat im getting at is that, anime is a foreign cartoon that goes deeper in meaning with different types of situations in life, like love, happiness, etc.. Where as americanized cartoons dont go into much depth about life and other situations. Well i gotta give props to the older more indepth cartoons (americanized) because they had more meaning instilled into them. Now its just, u gotta catch them all ...pyro_256 wrote:anime IS just a cartoon. only real difference is it's foreign. and you can't make somebody less prejudiced, people have tried that with me for years, and it hasn't changed me one little bit.

Or you can't do anything to change someone's mind about anime, like pyro_256, and my little brother.pyro_256 wrote:anime IS just a cartoon. only real difference is it's foreign. and you can't make somebody less prejudiced, people have tried that with me for years, and it hasn't changed me one little bit.
