ill admit i havent seen the whole series but i think that hideki is more of a perverted father to chii he rased chii and incoraged her to be her own person. i dont know if they end up together (please dont tell) but if they do my theory is just disturbing :|
im bored, feel free to add me to your msn messenger account my email is in my profile

I don't think Chii wears a bra. :?

Panties, yes, bra, no.
She has a bra. It was shown at the episode where Chii was tricked of getting a job at a peep show.

Apparently you think maybe Chii should burn her bra and became a man hating lesbian dyke who develops a beer gut, shaves her head and joins her sisters in the war against male opression.
Oh, you crazy fanboys! It was only a matter of time before one of these posts showed up. See an attack on your favorite show--resort to exaggeration! Tell me, at what point did I say Chii should become a man-hating lesbian dyke (lesbian dyke--that seems redundant) who develops a beer gut (can women develop beer guts?), shaves her head and joins her sisters in the war against male oppression (her robot slave sisters?)? Could it be at the point where I was saying that realistically she would have looked around for other men after becoming fully self-aware? Because lesbians who hate men always look for relationships with men, right?
By your definition why hould Chii want to stay with a guy who befriended her, has been nice to her, hasnt tried to have sex with her, helped here get a job, told her to keep the money she earned to spend on herself, and as others have noticed and you apparently chose to overlook, encouraged her to become her own person and develop her own personality.
I did acknowledge this, actually. And I said that if she was fully reasoning and self-aware, she would have also recognized that Hideki is not the only guy out there and would have looked for others before making a decision. When did I say she would never be with him? It may very well be that after dating she would have returned to Hideki. But it's silly to assume a sane woman who's experienced emotional intimacy with only one man will choose that man as her life-partner if she realizes that he is not the only one who she can share that intimacy with. Why are you so offended at the suggestion that Chii look around?

Another person brought up a good point--the father-role Hideki plays to Chii brings all kinds of crazy Freudian interpretations to the table.
You cant enjoy this show because you cant get past your own petty insecurities.

Ah, personal attacks. The last-resort argument for those who can't think of anything else to say. Oh, please elaborate on these insecurities for me! What will it be this time--I had a bad experience with a boyfriend? I was raped? I'm ugly? Because women who find marginalization of their gender *gasp* distasteful must have something "wrong" with them.

I'm not sure why you're so upset that I'm bringing up the wish-fulfillment aspect of this anime. It's in most titles. Are you so attached to it that you can't stand any alternative interpretations to your fanboy one?
Don't you hate it when people describe something as "cute" when they really mean "God, I want to fuck that"?

I would think so.

Also reserved for others who have so made up their minds that they won't look at anything else that is said.

Unless they were on an island and men where only myths....like dinosaurs, Big Foot or a black Michael Jackson.

I've seen several girls who went for the one guy without ever looking around furthur.

Didn't want to watch it at first since it seemed kinda peverted... but I started reading the manga and it was pretty funny so I started to watch the anime too.
To be blunt, yes I like~

I would think so.
But women don't usually have the stomach-centered fat distribution of men--you're not going to find the skinny-legs giant-stomach look of a guy with a big beer gut. The fat will be on the stomach, yes--but also on the hips, thighs, breasts, and upper arms.
Also reserved for others who have so made up their minds that they won't look at anything else that is said.
Touche. But then shouldn't I be resorting to personal attacks on him, as well?

Yes, Chobits is a romance, the same way Love Hina and the Tenchi series are romances. Yet it's popularity also has to do with the large amount of wish-fulfillment and fanservice in it. The basic story is that of a man "training" a sexy, underaged-looking robot girl--you don't find that slightly disturbing?

Then they exist. That doesn't make it a good idea.

I liked Chobits and think Chii is a real anime cutie.

I see Chii in the same category as Data from Star Trek Next Generation.

Chii is a sentient, self aware android with emotions and she loves Hideki. Only problem will be when they want to have kids. I guess they can always adopt.
you're also forgetting where the power switch is. He goes to... consummate the relationship... he'll turn her off. Such is the sacrifice.... oh, well, there's always the mudhole.

The power switch..... hmm...
If you see the lights flashing on and off in the Hideki aparment you know what's happening.

Luckily the series never really explored that aspect much. I liked the way that the characters seemed to care for each other independently of their appearances, although Chii's cuteness was still mentioned about every two minutes.

I WAS pleased to see that the series didn't just play to the fanservice, but actually tried to develop a plot.

What happens when people start preffering machines to other people, and is that ok... is mostly what I got.
