More or less. I have better things i could be doing, many of which I would enjoy, but sometimes I just choose not to do the "better thing".
Moonlight Soldier wrote:In the Western culture, people confuse otaku to be something positive like "Guru".
The British word for cigarette is a very bad word in the US. If someone from Britain uses the word here, they will probably get a beat down, even though they understand it only as a normal, innocent word.

A generally positive word in the US is a bad word in Japan. If someone from the US visiting Japan mentions something about being otaku, they're likely to be shunned.

Point is, one word can have different meanings across cultures. Only way to really use it appropriately, is by the meaning the word has in the culture you are presently in. In Japan, I'd likely never even say the word otaku. Here at home in America, I proudly claim myself as an otaku.

I am otaku! Nobody can make me change! Hahaha! :D No really, I do classify as otaku by that definition. Except the social part; I enjoy being social some of the time. Though it's usually anime-related as well.

I just saw the first comic party revolution episode. They showed these two crusty rude guys that is probably a reflection of what japaneese think when they think of otakus.
... and that's the story of how you were born

Still downloading Comic Party Revoluation (CPR?) from a local BT
site. Anyway what is an otaku? a while ago I posted a list called
you you know your an otaku when.. It was a variet of the Jeff
Foxworthy you know your a Redneck When. I don't think
one can classify yourself as an otaku . Someone else has
to call you it and then it's prement badge I wear it everyday. I wear
it more like a title along with Editor in traing (Going to Rhode
Island College for communcations), BESM Game Master, College
Student, Former Slam Poet and Judge ..etc While labels arn't a
good thing, I like my otaku title and noone can take that from me.
How do you know your an otaku? Easy when you create otaku, made
3 or more from newbes to pros.

No you're not pretty until someone else says you're pretty.

Likewise I'm not dark and mysterious until someone else says I'm dark and mysterious.

Phew, the last thing I need is to end up being a moody twat all in black leather.

Hence the name and my tendancy to cower in a dark room.
