More or less. I have better things i could be doing, many of which I would enjoy, but sometimes I just choose not to do the "better thing".Moonlight Soldier wrote:Usually an otaku person has nothing better to do with their life so they pass the time by watching anime, playing videogames, surfing the internet (otaku is also used to refer to a nerd/hacker/programmer).
The British word for cigarette is a very bad word in the US. If someone from Britain uses the word here, they will probably get a beat down, even though they understand it only as a normal, innocent word.Moonlight Soldier wrote:In the Western culture, people confuse otaku to be something positive like "Guru".
A generally positive word in the US is a bad word in Japan. If someone from the US visiting Japan mentions something about being otaku, they're likely to be shunned.
Point is, one word can have different meanings across cultures. Only way to really use it appropriately, is by the meaning the word has in the culture you are presently in. In Japan, I'd likely never even say the word otaku. Here at home in America, I proudly claim myself as an otaku.
I am otaku! Nobody can make me change! Hahaha!Zarxrax wrote:You are an otaku when your life revolves around anime. When the most important thing in your life is anime. When you find yourself immersed in anime related activities (like making amvs) and prefer it to doing something like being social. When you think about anime in some form or another all throughout the day. When it has gotten to the point that it is a disease. And yet you love the disease, and hope to never be cured.
