"Is this normal? Can boys/girls be in love?"
"All that matters is us."
*cling* "WAI!"
and ectera.
Well, yes, that's a good example of bland Yuri/Yaoi material. (although heavily overexaggerated might I add) But not all Yuri/Yaoi is like that. Most aren't actually. And when you find one that isn't, it's really really really good.

(If you ever meet me on AIM, I'll be glad to show you some decent and tasteful Yuri material)

DJ_Izumi wrote:And I don't think you can call it 'A yuri' since it's not Japanese in anyway. In Russia Yuri is just a name. It's a boy's name at that. :\
I think the boy Russian name is spelled Yury, but anyways... It could be considered "Yuri" because "Yuri" is just a Japanese term that refers to deeper, more mature relationships betweeen two women. Which is the comic did have. Although, it is true that Yuri is more commonly applied to these kind of things in just Anime...

Purple. This is pink. Anyways... The quote code is well capable of handling colored text.

There is no such thing as a non-hentai, non-loli Yuri plot that still dosn't come off as completly asinine and contrived.

Also, you have the meaning of 'Yuri' way off, anyway...

God, I love being mean on the internet.

How many times have I offered to show you? Just because you don't want to look at them doesn't mean that they don't exist.

And you would actually know this?

My thoughts exactly.

Don't bother arguing about this kind of thing, either of you; be content to your own sides of the issue and don't go around picking fights :P

The word 'Yuri' is not a Japanese word meaning 'Beautiful relationships between women' or anything like that. The word is NEVER used towards or by homosexual Japanese women, the most common terms used for uman beings is 'bian' (Obviously rooted from the word 'Rezubian', or 'Lesbian'. Gotta love the adaptation of western words into other languages.)

The rooting of the term Yuri to refer to Manga and Anime is a pretty debatable thing. Most people simply think 'Yuri, it means Lily. Because Yuri is beautiful! ^.^', this is pretty narrow minded. In the 70's there was a Japanese gay mens magazine, (I forget the name) that refered to homosexual males as 'The Rose Tribe' and homosexual females as 'The Lilly Tribe', this could have effected how it was adopted. Another possable source is simply that a large ammount of the early homosexual women IN anime and manga were named 'Yuri' or 'Yuriko'. Hence the spawning of cliche 'When ever a character is named 'Yuri' it takes all the msystery out of it' and other similar such things.

You should also not that these Kanji for 'Yuri' 揺 and 揺り have dick all to do with flowers, and pretty much mean "vibration, flickering, jolting, or tremor" which has sexual conotations if you think about it.

Yuri does NOT mean 'Lesbian'
