Post by Jonathan02us » Mon Jan 12, 2004 1:56 am

Well u can thank dokool for this thread, but i though it was a great idea. I figured that i should give this a spin and see wat i get back. The "Sell Me On" thing is where you guys have to try and "sell" the anime i mentioned in the subject, well i dont think u guys need anymore explination because im sure u all have seen the previous threads. Well enough about that, now lets get back to business ... so tell me about Onegia twins, its good point and bad points, its sequels, and prequels, etc.

Onegai Twins takes place in the same universe as Onegai (Please) Teacher, but a little later, probably at least a year. However, no knowledge of O. Teacher is ever really presupposed, except for a few minor jokes here and there. The major characters are mostly new.

This 12-episode series is a romantic comedy about a high school kid, Maiku Kamishiro, who's living by himself and working from home as a computer programmer, and the two girls, Miina and Karen, who end up living with him when they figure out that one of them is his twin sister but they don't know which. Of course, both girls also end up attracted to him... so they have the problem that whichever one is the twin obviously won't be able to get involved with him, but the other one will have no reason to keep living with him... so there's quite a long period of uncertainty (it lasts 10 or 11 episodes). Also of course, the two girls are not the only ones going after Maiku.

I liked Onegai Twins, but I can't really say why. There's moderate amounts of fanservice, mostly when the girls are talking together in the bath, but that's easily enough ignored. The secondary characters are well done, the pace never seems rushed, and there's plenty to laugh at (including Marié, the uber-cute mascot who's back from O. Teacher). The OSTs make great background music for whenever you need it. The animation, as with O. Teacher, is on the whole beautiful, especially the landscape shots.

I don't know, I guess I'm just a sucker for a good romantic comedy.

But after having searched around a little on Google, I'm finding that opinions on Onegai Twins are quite divided. I guess it's just one of those series that isn't for everyone.

If you liked Onegai Twins, you will probably like this as well. The storyline in this one isn't as farfetched as in Onegai Twins, and things are kept a bit more realistic. Overall though I liked Onegai Twins better. Onegai Twins just seemed too REPETITIVE. Every episode, one of the girls will go on this long rant in her mind along the lines of "We might be related, but we might not" over and over again, then the other girl does the same thing. I mean the debate is interesting and all, but I don't need to hear it 500 times. Still, this is a series worth watching, if you enjoy a good romantic comedy.

Let me pose you a question: How much do you like the phrase "We might be related... BUT WE MIGHT NOT"? If the answer is anything short of "I love it" I recommend staying away from this series because you will hear this phrase ~500 times per episode. If you didn't watch ONegai Teacher then maybe you will be able to like, but if you did see the first series, I also recommend staying away. To me, a huge fan of the first series, this series was an obvious attempt to milk the success Teacher. The main characters are flat and uninteresting. The plot is subpar at best. The animation is stellar just like in Teacher but that's about the best that can be said of it. Stay away, for your own sake.

Yeah, um, I can't believe I forgot to mention this... "We might be relatives, but we might be strangers" is to Onegai Twins what "top priority" is to Onegai Teacher. But worse.
