When Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust was made I heard that it was made in the US, and at first was only available in Japan subbed in nihongo, and the nihonjin were livid about that. Remember, this is a rumor!
VHD: Bloodlust was animated in Japan by Madhouse Studios, most of the funding came from U.S. anime distributer Urban Vision. VHD: Bloodlust was initially released with only a english dub, both in America and Japan for its initial release. The reasoning being that animating the film around an English dub would make the film more acceptable to a wider audience outside of Japan.

Later, a Japanese audio track was created for the film's extended release in Japan. However, by this time, the Region 1 DVD was already in production and there were no plans for the new Japanese audio track to be included in the U.S. DVD release.

ok the second thing with the computer that was said above.. The inbetween work can now be relageted to the computer now, there is a program called "Frame it" i believe that lets the computer extrapolate the movement of said objects in 3d space, giving it a more realistic look. but good luck finding it.. cause its only used bt the movie industry. and why? the pricetag...100,000. ok im a go now. :D

There's a manga out called Shutterbox that's made by Americans. It's in the manga section in any bookstore. I'm writing a few anime scripts myself, which I hope will someday come to life ::looks hopeful:: and I have every intention of studying Japanese and going to Japan for a while. They don't seem particularly anti-American.

There's a book out called "How to Draw Manga" by Ben Krefta that explains manga/anime drawing by old fashioned methods vs. computer technology. It's really good. You should check it out. It points out the pros and cons of both methods.

I received a copy of that as a Christmas gift, and to be honest, although it was a good, thoughtful choice on the part of the giver, I was disappointed with the actual book. It's very colourful and flashy, but the coverage of specific technique seems superficial to me - he shows you examples of things without really telling how to do them - and much of the example art is very American-looking in style and subject matter. There's a series of books by Hikaru Hayashi, also titled How To Draw Manga, which I like better, even if one of them does spend 14 pages (!) on "sailor suit school uniform battles".

So, I guess there's an answer to one of the original questions: non-Japanese people can draw anime style if they want to, but Canadians won't like the result. :? (I've no idea of Ben Krefta's actual nationality or ancestry, but the name doesn't sound Japanese.)

Eh, I'm sure other answers have been much more proficient in answering said questions, though for example, I know Tokyopop has a contest allowing different countries to submit manga stories and then they publish it in a special edition called "the rising stars of manga".

I recently saw, lying around my house, a "Rising Stars of Manga" entry form filled in with info for my sister and one of her friends. Apparently they are or were planning to enter, under the names Maki and Miyu Kano (even though they're not related IRL).

While she's good at drawing, I have a distinct feeling that she'll never make it.

Aww...lol...I know it was a hit around here though, they've made the first one and are doing it again apparently.
