Actually, what happened was the Maryland Pre-screenings got to see all of the videos while the others got I think 2 tapes. Why beats me, but I guess since Otakon is in Maryland, a lot of the local creators would come out for it.

Indeed. Also, I believe Matt said himself that the King of Prussia screening went so well that he wished that Alan had hosted all three weeks. I'd agree, we had a great time, and we deserve to see more good-quality videos instead of just the final three tapes...

The following needs to be taken into considerations

Quu needs 2 weeks to set up tapes (prescreening and contest masters)

we also allow two weeks for stragglers, which I really want to crack down upon, but I've been told I can't...which sucks for me...watch out, I may do it anyway.

I need a week for...
...printing ballots (which will be uber-cool this year, just you wait!)
...counting the pre-screening ballots (unless you all want me to be cheap and lame about it, then it could just take a really long day...and we don't want that, do we?
...prep pre-judging

I'm thinking of making a May 15 deadline (as some of the above can be done at the same time)
...but the math isn't done yet...I want to put on the best contest possible with as many unique vids as possible...

but right now, I've got some time to set things up.

I can certainly understand needing the time for all this and please by all means do what is necessary to create a good contest...don't change just for one

. I don't *need to* enter XD. At the same time, May 15 is MUCH nicer than the originally said (I think you said) April 17th deadline. IIRC last year it was May 30th or something. I remember I submitted my entry a week after ACen (which is the 15th) and unfortunately submitted the same entry. Hopefully I can crackdown and get both done, but I my doubts.

Well I know I'm late in jumping into this thread (as with every thread I usually jump into) but I am Marylander and I wouldn't mind giving you a hand if you need it... I was at the Maryland Pre-screenings last year, so if you want help with that I try to lend a hand as well ^_^.

It was less a matter of preference for one locale over another, and more a case of how fast we can register & digitize the entries, then compose semi-organized tapes for the pre-screenings and make up the necessary evaluation forms. That stuff takes time & effort to do right.

The Maryland screenings got two new tapes to review each time because that's as fast as Patrick & I could go through the AMV submissions. Remember how the tapes were always showing up a few hours late because they were being overnighted to the screenings in Maryland?

People attending the Maryland pre-screenings got to see nearly everything because I was able to arrange the most number of definite, large screenings with the Maryland fan club first.

Plus, I tried not to burn people out by hitting them with more than four hours of AMV submissions in a day. Two hours of AMVs, rest/lunch break, two more hours of AMVs, and then maybe a final tape afterwards if some people were still able to go on.

As each pre-screening date came up, the tapes that were shown were the ones that had the least number of opinions/evaluations. It's best to do it that way so the big trends are more evident, and love/hate spikes are evened out.

In regards to the production schedule for the AMV Contest, It's worked out so that having things go wrong won't cripple the AMV contest. From an optimistic point of view, we could just do everything in the six weeks before the convention and master the final tapes out that Thursday.

And we all know how well that always works....
