Well I probably will start working on my in....April . It really sucks that ACen is right around the deadline and I have to make my entry for that as well as other things. Either way, I certainly hope they don't change the deadline. If anything, I'd like it in mid-June if possible.[/quote]

ahhhh.... I see...slacker :P

Uhm...isn't Otakon's deadline in May? For an August con? Seems pretty well in advance to me. If they change the deadline to something like February or March, I can almost guarantee I won't have a video ready for it. I also have a feeling a lot of creators need that time to finish their Otakon entries. Maybe I'm wrong and everyone already started

The Otakon deadline has always been late May/early June. I thought that's actually not enough time, seeing as how many entries Otakon receives per year.

All in all, I don't think there's much that needs to be changed. Judges? We already have em (the pre-screenings). So the categories have all been judged. As for more categories, it just makes even more competition for awards. This Masters contest just makes another gap between "advanced" creators and the general crowd. Just leave it alone guys ^-^

Folks...I don't think I made this clear enough...

This idea stated in the original post, now that I see all the perspectives, is garbage (at the moment...please don't comment on this). It's done, over with, finito, gone. There really shouldn't be anymore discussion about it. Currently I'm gathering feedback for a showing of AMV trailers that was brought up (as I think it has much merit).

Further opinions about the "Masters" competiton, is, at this point redundant, as it no longer exists. I'd rather focus on the new topic at hand, which I see people talking about...the Otakon Deadline...

I don't know who did it, but someone posted an entry/deadline marker on the ORG's calendar, which I did not do....I wasn't going to do it, until mid-january. This person says that the deadline for recieving entries is April 19. This is wrong. It's NOT 4/19 (or as I call it, Pie Day). Matt suggested I make it april 25 (Saturday, or as I call it...Saturday)...but I haven't set anything yet, but when I do, you all will be the first to know, as I'm posting it (with rules) here first (AMV ML 2nd).

If someone is going to think they'll be late with an entry...let me know ahead of time, and I'll work something out. NO late requests until I post the rules...I'll ignore them (MUST SLEEP!).

Later days

Oh I *really* hope the entry deadline isn't in April. Last year it was *late* May IIRC and even that was a bit too early for me (and hence why I used my Acen entry). So at the same time, moving it a month earlier will only hurt a few of us editors.

If at all possible, please move it a little later like mid-June. At the same time, I can understand moving it earlier since more preparation time is always nice, but it's just the request of one editor. If the deadline is April, I really doubt I can get an entry done by then. I'll probably still be working on my ACen entry then.

Anyone else feel similar?

I agree wholeheartedly. The Otakon 2003 deadline was perfect because I finished school and had plenty of time to edit at home. I don't know about others, but editing while taking classes tends to be detrimental to my work habits and my GPA, so I support as late a deadline as possible.

Hmm...this will be one of the easier parts of my job...sort of, as I have to have a Master VHS copy of the contest by the end of June at the latest...I'll jot some notes down and come up with a couple of deadline possibilities and bring them up here, ok?

Again, keep in mind, Otakon is the last weekend in July, and I'd like to have the prescreenings done before June 20th.

We'll see what happens.

Oh crap! I totally forgot that Otakon wasn't in August next year. At the same time, you need to have a *master* copy by the end of June for a End of July Contest? That seems a bit too early to me, but at the same time, earlier is better.

If at all possible, please try and extend the deadline as much as possible. I imagine talking to Patrick/Quu will be the best way to figure out how long a master will take to generate and pre-screenings. At the least, I *definitely* am against an April deadline. I very much would like to submit a unique entry to the contest this year, but if it's april, I'll have to send my ACen entry again (which is what I'd like to avoid).

I'm under the assumption that a lot of the editors would like more time (at least the ones I have talked to). Please take it into consideration. More time for us usually means better entries. Or maybe that's just me :P.

Ok...I figure I'll have the deadline posted (that is, I'll tell you when it is) around mid january, the 17th or so, give or take a day.

The following needs to be taken into considerations

Quu needs 2 weeks to set up tapes (prescreening and contest masters)

we also allow two weeks for stragglers, which I really want to crack down upon, but I've been told I can't...which sucks for me...watch out, I may do it anyway.

I need a week for...
...printing ballots (which will be uber-cool this year, just you wait!)
...counting the pre-screening ballots (unless you all want me to be cheap and lame about it, then it could just take a really long day...and we don't want that, do we?
...prep pre-judging
...figuring out how long it'll take to do the Maryland pre-screening, which took 3 weeks to do...from what I understand, the NY and King of Prussia screening was all done in a day (which I find hard to believe, but I know it's possible)

I'm thinking of making a May 15 deadline (as some of the above can be done at the same time)
...but the math isn't done yet...I want to put on the best contest possible with as many unique vids as possible...

but right now, I've got some time to set things up.
