Structure of paricular AMVideos - any videos?
I've just seen VicBond007's "Shining Collection" and Adiamante's "Wherever Garnet Goes" (remastered build) (FFIXj). The former one is particularly interesting:
(parts of this from one my review)
<Opening tune, shows The Facility>
Sets up the current physical setting
<Perfect Lyric Match!!!>
Audio: "So lately you're wondering who will be there to take my place"
Video: Garnet, walking thru straight with head slightly lowered.
Ah, somebody's thinking!
....
With a few miscellaneous symbolic/dramatic scenes dropped in for transition's sake, most of the elements are alternatingly: The ship leaving, (scenes with Zidane-Garnet) sometimes involving some sort of trouble, as well as closeups and profiles.
Does anybody know of any other videos which make use of a interweaving elements in this way?
I don't have much experience with this "technique" just wondering who here uses or has used it.
For example, an Escaflowne video with Hitomi reflecting on her time in Gaea, or a video which shows the relationship between two characters, or (particular Gundam series is notorious for this) two persons or group, in a time of trouble (war). Or even the distinction (.hack, Angelic Layer, et al) between a person in one world or the other.
Although a relatively minor part in an overall AMV, I'd consider this a mark of a good AMV author. One that's unlike myself. One that doesn't suck, like me. So please, your thoughts on how this is implemented and applied.

I just found another one:
Aa! Megami-sama
The clip in AniMix, after "stay with me" to the same anime.
Shows scene:Belldandy with flashing Keiichi and Celestin for 1/3 second clips.
Sheer brilliance!

Forgot to mention this great one:
Vlad G. Pohnert - Memoried Dance
The picture album theme/concept lends itself to transitions nicely. Combined with consecutive scene classes (grouping explosions, falling, landscapes, etc), this makes for a very good video.
Yes, it's another masterpiece, from the minds of AMVs.org

Um... these are basic techniques of visual narrative.danielwang wrote:I don't have much experience with this "technique" just wondering who here uses or has used it.
You might do well to read about the developments of visual narrative - things like how narrative progression developed in early cinema and Eisenstien's theories and applications of montage in developing these ideas.

Well, it depends on the viewer, but generally, there's tricks that work on everyone.
Of course, Mr. Wang is talking about the obvious at length as always.
I'd just say there's 3 primary concepts:
1) Images/scenes that go together
2) Images/scenes that go in sequence
3) Images/scenes that repeat/recur/are echoed at more than one point in the vid.
You go from there and put all sorts of twists on it.
How you do that well is a different question. That reading AD suggest probably wouldn't hurt though.

The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

A guy I work with suggested I watch some of Eisenstien's work. Do you think they'd have it at Blockbuster?AbsoluteDestiny wrote:You might do well to read about the developments of visual narrative - things like how narrative progression developed in early cinema and Eisenstien's theories and applications of montage in developing these ideas.

You should be able to find some Eisenstein at Blockbuster, check the Foreign section. At the very least, the Battleship Potemkin should be there... for more, I'd definately go w/ the library.Rozard wrote:A guy I work with suggested I watch some of Eisenstien's work. Perhaps the public library?

Eisenstein's "The Man with the Movie Camera" is THE GREATEST THING EVAR
"If someone feels the need to 'express' himself or herself with a huge graphical 'singature' that has nothing to do with anything, that person should reevaluate his or her reasons for needing said form of expression, possibly with the help of a licensed mental health practitioner."
