All he'd need to do is an announcement thread that wasn't typed in all caps. Plenty of other people have emerged from nowhere just like that.

As for making it obligatory to have seen each video, I see a practical problem.

I've seen Lolipops Sunshine and rrrRRRRrrr, Euphoria, Playground Love blah blah blah a whole bunch of seriously good videos that may get nominations....

but I didn't download them from the donut.

Does that mean I have to download it from the donut instead of basing it on what I saw at a con or from a copy the creator sent me another way?

That's going to be a lot of downloads just for videos I HAVE seen, let alone ones I havent.

Well, since I've downloaded maybe 3 videos since early August, I've probably missed on on a lot of vids that have been released since then.
Dial-up is too much of a pain. :?

Since I'm a person who tries to be fair, I'll probably just opt out of voting for anything this year.

Hmm, like Absolute and Others have said this would be hard on people with either slow connections or limited hd space or what not, but I do wish that all who voted would have seen the nominees. but alas no matter what, people will vote the way they want to. So forcing them may only make them not want to vote.

Izumi, with the Koop analogy, I think it would still be as popular. It would take a lot longer for it to become so, but I believe it would have eventually happened.

That's why there's a preview button. :?

As mentioned, I agree the idea has merit but I also agree it's just not proactical. I myself have better copies of some of the vidoes that what is on the org and it really would be a waste of extra bandwidth just to re-download then for the VCAs

In terms of popular videos, generally the geberal masses I find like flashy videos at the moment. But this really does not infuence me in how I make my videos. If you like making a flashy vidoe, great! But I myself make my videos my way but it does not make then any less better than a video with lots of downloads and reviews. Some of my most favorate videos are not even on any of the lists or far down the star chart.

In the end it kind of follows the pattern of the film industry. The movies that make the most money are the fast pased special effects films in general. A good dramatic video get awards (oscars, etc) but it not really popular with the masses. Then there are films that come along and are a perfect balance between the two (VERY rare)....

So in the end I suppose one has to ask what kind of video you like to make and the reason. We all make videos to further our popularity somewhat ( a human trait), but it really depends on how much of that reason we do it for....

Well... no, that's not the reason the preview button is there. But you can see the most recent posts after you preview in the "Topic review" box.

Here's an idea. The nominees make a 10 second snippet of their video (whatever they think is the best 10 secs or whatever), and then when the nominees are posted, a link to the 10 second snippet is attached. That way it saves the viewers bandwidth and time. If the viewer sees something interesting in a snippet, it might encourage him or her to download the full vid.

The next step would be to concatenate the video snippets of each category together back to back, like they do in the Oscars and such. But that would require someone impartial to do the appending and the consent of all the creators.

But DJ_Izumi, there have been thousands of videos this year... it is impossible to download and watch them all... :(

Or are you talking about the nominees ?
