Dear Japan,
I would like to add another request, I know we had asked you to violate your constitution in sending SDF troops to Iraq. Could you please stop making cartoons? Or at least selling them to America? All that flashy animation is giving our children dirty thaughts and staying indoors having seizures when they should be outside doing drugs and being involved in gang warfare. You're peacefull civilizaton, with only an average of 125 firearm related deaths per year is poisioning our nation's peacefull hometown streets. As for making anime illegal ... that will never pass ... it will be like the prohibition of beer ... it was banned for a while but then it was traded in the black market ... they eventually reversed the decision... as for anime ... too many people like it and they would loose a great deal of revenue from sales ... so not unless anime gets hit hard with something ... it will be here for a long while and our ( great great great great )^100 grandchildren will still be watching it and saying ... wow that was a great series ... 8)

Ugh.
My initial reaction after reading the petition was EXTREME and UNCONTROLLABLE rage. Well, nah, not really. But I was pretty pissed. I really hate it when you get some ignorant, close-minded idiot who obviously has no idea about how this country works doing something as dumb as sending an anti-Japan, anti-anime petition to the President. First off, this person makes the people sending SERIOUS petitions look bad. You can't just make a pretty little paper, get a bunch of signatures, send it to the President, and expect to be taken seriously. I've petitioned and protested a few times in the past and I really hate seeing people taking something so serious and using it for something so menial.
Another thing - has this person heard of a thing called the Constitution? You can't ban something because you don't like it. It violates the rights of anime-fans, who are citizens just like anyone else. Pornography isn't banned. There are stores on Coconut Grove (note: I live in Miami) that have porno/bondage stuff ON DISPLAY in their windows, or used to at least. I think the President is probably a little more worried about stuff like that than cartoons.
And my final point - what are the odds President Bush has any clue what anime (excluding Pokemon and Sailor Moon) is?
