Just an Off Topic question sorry:
What the hell is it with people doing online petitons. Is there some sort of success rate for these things that no one else (including people who have studied the success rate of online petitions) know about.
Sorry, its just this petition crap is getting on my nerves.

You know, now that I think about it... in my 12 years of Christian education (BTW that hasn't stopped me from living an atheist life) I don't think I've ever read a passage that says anything about witches or witchcraft.UncleMilo wrote:(Let us not forget that the Bible condemns witches!)
I get the feeling that it's merely reminiscent of the times when "it was the in thing" to burn them etc. Like it was "the in thing" to persecute Jews and what-not.

Just wanted to point out, Keichi and Belldandy are both in college, and while she may be hundreds of years old, she is meant to look 21. the only "underage" character in there is Skuld, who "looks" 14, but since she is a goddess, is much older. ya, this was funny. Even though Ah! My Goddess happens to be tied with Evangelion as my favorite anime of all time.1) Ah My Goddess: A sick and disgusting show which causes children under the age of 18 to think they are capable of love. The main female character is clearly under 18, and is forced into a romantic relationship by an older man who "wishes" for her to be his girlfriend forever. He even KISSES her, and she appears NAKED. That poor girl must be so confused.

It's a spoof, people
Notice that the email address for the petition's author is "neko332@rogers.com". Does that sound like the screen name of someone who hates anime? Now do a Google search for the organization named "Responsible Americans Against Child Exploitation". The only hits you'll find are references to this petition. Wouldn't a real organization have a home page, or at least be mentioned on some page somewhere? Finally, consider their choice of series - Love Hina and Ah! My Goddess. Are those the worst examples they can dig up?
There are plenty of popular series that I'd expect the Christian Right to object to. They really did get their panties in a bunch over Card Captor Sakura ("they're encouraging innocent youngsters to use Tarot cards!"). There are lots of series, even series currently shown on North American television, with much stronger sexual and non-Christian religious content. So why pick these two? The answer is, it's a spoof. The authors deliberately chose relatively innocuous series in order to make it funnier.

Deuteronomy 18:10-11: "Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead."Declan_Vee wrote:You know, now that I think about it... in my 12 years of Christian education (BTW that hasn't stopped me from living an atheist life) I don't think I've ever read a passage that says anything about witches or witchcraft.
Disclaimer: I practice witchcraft and divination myself and should not be consulted as an authority on Christian doctrine.

LOL!!!!!!
Come on, even if that thing had a trillion signatures, hell, even if George W. Bush banned anime from America, that would only make it stronger. If anime was actually illegal, it would actually become "cool" to watch it amoung high school crowds, because you're trendily bucking the system. Thus, Hong Kong bootlegs and internet fansubs would have the biggest boost in history.
And as far as the content of that pettition.... pure crap. How much you want ot bet anime's done far more good in America than bad? Maybe a few people where watching Evangelion or Lain unstead of Jack Ass and watching Eminem videos. That's a great service to humanity.

Hey! I think Eminem is quite humerous to watch!
and as for this being a spoof, I dunno, Bush is one of the most zealous christian presidents I have seen for a long time. I am not going to start bad mouthing him in this thread, for the sake of arghuemnet (looks at Lyrs' avatar
) but I will say that if it ever came to it, I don't think bush would be totally against something like this.
Unless he is a closet fanboy

... You're joking right. Anime being "cool" first let's just stop there. ...no I'm not going to go anywhere with the obvious.HeartbreakerByZep wrote:LOL!!!!!!

Are you saying you approve of Bootlegging anime and mass spreading fansubs? Regardless of whatever happens in America (now I'm being _very_ hypothetical here) Madman and ADV-UK are more than capable of standing on their own two feet and putting out legit releases for the english speaking market.
As for Eva and Lain actually helping anyone. You're out of your mind! Evangelion has done more harm than good (that and it sucks) and Lain... (I'd rather not talk about it)

no, what he was saying was that if anime was illeagelized then what is to stop people from wanting to get the already illeagel stuff since now all of it would be illeagel.
