While some things in EVA are up for interpretation (as they are meant to be) other things are not.

First Impact is never explained in the show... and there have been some good arguments for what First Impact was... but I don't believe that ANYTHING goes, just because some things are vague...

I've read something saying that First Impact was what wiped out the Dinosaurs. Since by "Impact" they seem to mean a great catastophic event that involved unimanginable loss of life.

But you've probably already read that theory somewhere.

Yes... someone mentioned that.

Another "First Impact" theory was The Flood, which Noah survived with his Ark. This is also a possible answer, since all the other impacts were caused by forces outside of mankind. (2nd Impact being caused by man messing with the 2nd Angel, all possible 3rd Impacts would be caused by Lillith)

I'd like to go with the Dinosaur thing myself, but it doesn't mesh well with the series.

Lilith was before Eve, so they say. I don't know if Lilith existed according to the Christian relgiion, but keep in mind the Bible is edited.

As for my interpretation, I don't think I really should, since, though I've seen the series multiple times, I've never watched it all in one sitting, and it's been a very long time since I've seen any of the most crucial parts.

But in the most general terms, I'd say Evangelion is a story about life. As for what occured in the movie EoE, I think the phrase "death & rebirth" sums it up perfectly. Though I don't think Eva has any true connection to the Bible, as religious refferences where used mainly for inspiration and flavor, but it is not unlike the Revalation, where earth & heaven where destroyed, and recreated.

Sorry for the double post, but as far as Evangelion being old.... that makes no sense, it's not very old. I don't listen to any music by any bands that made their debut 1980 or later anyway. "Old" things are usually good.

We got to work on those pronouns...

OK... I have a friend who is much better versed on the Khaballa and the occult.

However, I will do my best to explain.

SPOILER WARNING!!

In the original Adam and Eve story, there were three brides for Adam.
The first was constructed before him and Adam was kind of creeped out by seeing that and he couldn't interact with this partner and so she was removed from Eden.

The second was made the same way as Adam. She, however, had her own sense of will and desire and wanted to do her own thing and wasn't all that interested in Adam. Her name was Lillith. Lillith went on to marry Cain and became the mother of all demons. (Note the very strong anti-woman tones of the old religious texts... she wanted to have her own will and so she was an unacceptable bride and became a mother of demons... nice)

The third bride was made from Adam's rib and was docile and subservient and Adam could deal with that (back to that old anti-woman thing again)

So... let's compare.

First Bride - Constructed
First Child - Rei - Constructed (Clone)

Second Bride - Lillith - Strong sense of self will. Conflicting.
Second Child - Asuka - Strong sense of self will. Conflicting.

Third Bride - Eve - Docile and subservient
Third Child - Shinji - Docie and subservient.

Fun, huh?

Well... just so long as it doesn't make you vomit in motion... that could get messy.
