One, I hear the LH dub sucs, I was low on cash and wanted the series.
I made the mistake of buying the Fushigi Yuugi: Eikou Den HK version off of eBay; I didn't realize it was HK, nor did I realize that Pioneer had an R1 version out. The subs (which appeared to have been translated from the Chinese instead of straight from Japanese) were so bad that I had to watch it dubbed.

So let me advise anyone who wants to take their chances with bootlegs: make sure they're listed as having an English audio track. If you're going to get bootlegs, you might as well make sure you get good bootlegs.

I'd only get bootlegs for three reasons:

1. Not available in the U.S. (i.e. not licensed, and no idea of when)
2. U.S. company did horrible job (i.e. the Sonic X and Yu-gi-oh dubs. 4Kids sucks so much ass)
3. Entire series cost is probably more than you'll spend in a lifetime, and the U.S. release is slow as crap. (i.e. InuYasha)

Those are my main reasons I'd get a bootleg. Now, I have thought about getting some, but as of this time I have not bought a bootleg or downloaded a fansub.
If a title is licensed, then I'll be patient for its U.S. release. (however ADV is testing that patience with its long wait for Puni Puni Poemi. When was that licensed? Like almost two years ago? Guess it keeps the shelf warm and they like warm shelves [their old shelf heater broke])

If a US release was for whatever reason crappy, I'd just import the Japanese release and try to mux in the subs.

You'd have to be stupid to buy something that was encoded from Divx and Xvid source material.

The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

When were they licensed? And by Eva disks you mean the director's cut right? That was licensed on 4/19/2003, Nadesico doesn't have a date, and Puni Puni Poemi was 7/05/2001.

So in fact you've been waiting less, sometimes it pays to have patience.
For U.S. licenses....here

And Izumi, just what source are you using then? Mpeg, Mpeg2, etc?

Oh, and CaTaClYsM, now that I do have an R2 player, I was thinking about getting the Japanese releases over bootlegs(I'm planning on learning Japanese......eventuallly), but the Japanese releases are very expensive. I'd only do it for short series. (something like InuYasha would put me in mountains of debt.)

Didn't her statement imply that she was using DivX and XviD source, and hence, no one should be paying for her DVDs?
