Hot to beat the link checker - without breaking rules

Post by danielwang » Wed Dec 10, 2003 10:00 pm

Want to have link, but link checker rejects it?

Ending up linking inside the profile page?

If you use Windows Media redirects, there is a way around this. Apparently Windows Media will parse WSX metadata files even if they don't have an extention or even a fake MPEG extension.

But wait, Phade checks the file headers. If you want to fool the file-detect code, just create a Windows Media wmv file. Then delete the first stream (if there is one accidentally) and add a new stream. In the envelope, put a client-side dynamic include to another file.

You can hide streams too. So you can include 3mb of your trailer to make it biggger, then include your stream.
( Hide pr0n and warez in files too with Windows Media 2003 which has file envelopes :) for Enhanced Experience. )

Isn't Windows Media great?

Hey,

Ummmm, you are retarded. The link checker looks to see if the link you entered actually goes somewhere and not into a black hole (ie, 404). Windows Media has nothing to do with the checker. Heck, you could link to warez directly and the checker wouldn't care as long as the link is good. Of course, you will be banned if you link to stuff you shouldn't be linking to.

Phade.

My mistake. Sorry!

I thought it made sure it was a multimedia file, or at least had the extension of a valid filetype.

Just wanted to point out, Windows Media let's you redirect within a multimedia file, so it IS possible to host, say, a 1kb file (the 1kb file is always up) and update that file instead of the link.

That way, you could host .txt files off of freewebhosts, personal servers and such; the 1kb file wouldn't comnume much bandwidth at all and should stay up all the time.

You could avoid link deletions (at least while the 1kb WMV is up).
If your webhost gives a 401 Access Denied when you run out of bandwidth, you run out of bandwdth alot and you want to make sure that your link doesn't get deleted?
But you want a Direct link?

Bogus WMV file trick. Cheat the link check,m though as Phade says, not really.

Ummm... but that file would go down when you ran out of bandwidth...

Perhaps you would host the files on seperate providers.
