These are bootlegs. No doubt about it.

I've been to the site in question, and no I'm not posting a link, don't want to make the mods job any harder than it is. (people are hard to manage)
But the website (how bout we call it "DA") DA sells both legit and bootleg. It has a domestic side which is all legit U.S. releases and an import side which is where the bootlegs are. So, yeah technically they are bad(btw I haven't ordered anything from them-honest), but in another sense they aren't. They would be a perfectly legit business if they just dropped all the HKs. The only reason I'd buy a bootleg is if its for a series that has no future in the U.S., or has had a U.S. company fuck it up (see Sonic X).
And I reiterate that I have NOT bought a bootleg ever or downloaded a fansub.

As for those series, I do know of a website that has those. Go here

Don't worry those aren't bootlegs, but they are hella expensive and you need a region 2 player, oh nd no english subs. (well hthere are rare exceptions)

Well region 0 means that it can be played anywhere ... it is most likely bootleg though ... :( ... somethings that are too good to be true are usually bootleg

Something in regard to my immediate decision that because they had One Piece and Naruto, that they were indeed bootlegs.
That was based on the following points...
1) Both series are utter crap
2) Not licensed in the US
3) Both have rather annoying and demanding fans
4) Did I mention the mentality of the fans of such series

Of course sometimes it's not as clear. I was browsing the Anime Anytime (huge anti-bootleg authority in Australia) catalogue to see if they live up their policy. And I found this...

Incredibly suss, although from what I've heard from everyone I've spoken to on the subject. This is a legit DVD. Sure as hell doesn't look that way.

Isn't it sad that using a DVD-9 disk efficently, rather then cheat the customer and put a series on 7 disks is a sign of a bootleg?

You can easily fit 8 eps (200mins) on a DVD-9 at 6mbit and just use VBR to make up the difference. :P

I'm guessing you don't particularly care about your popularity here.

Reading this thread, I kind of feel like I did when I suddenly learned that sharing and DL'ing MP3s was considered illegal, or that emulated console game ROMs are illegal after 24 hours if you don't own the original games.

I'd kind of like to sell my Boogiepop Phantom import box set back over eBay from whence it came (and buy the new box set plus soundtrack from Best Buy where they were selling it for only $53), but I don't know the first thing about selling on eBay or shipping or anything like that. Though the English audio and subs seem to be the same as those used in the The (repetition intentional) Right Stuf International release, a few subs are dropped, which is annoying when they're important to the plot.

On the other hand, stuff by FX (including Fushigi Yuugi, Trigun, and Berserk) tends to be perfect as far as dubbing and subs go, and sometimes extras too (like with FY).

I'll admit I was kind of wondering why my FY DVDs had some noticeable macroblocking in really fast flashing scenes (though the rest of the time they looked perfectly fine).

Okay, that's enough, now that I've made a total idiot out of myself...

There is no such "24 hour" law. Downloading roms is illegal, period.
