Hardcore video editing

Post by Mushkin » Mon Dec 01, 2003 10:48 pm

This is going to sound real odd I work in 3ds max (now and then) Discreet Combustion 3.0 (Alot) and Adobe Premiere Pro (alot) My question is

http://americas.shop.3dlabs.com/product ... ncategory=

If that card is in a dual rig would it be ok for games and what does that card do as far as rendering? So If I am working on a Project say in combustion haveing that card will help real time effects and or when rendering would be faster? WTF I am lost! Would it do OK in games?

Those cards are for view-port editing only pretty much. They offer the ability to have neat things like anti-aliased lines. They work using standard OpenGL/D3D drivers like most other cards.

The professional cards accelerate things like large wireframes & anti-aliased lines. While scrapping speed optimization for games. Also leaving large chunks of driver support missing for games.

Gaming cards are more tuned for gaming... ERrmm yeah...

As for final renders and effects in Combustion, a pro card will be no different than a gaming card since those are mainly done by the CPU. Though some of Combustions effects are done realtime in openGL, but with those things you wouldn't notice much of an improvement with a pro card.
