Calling all FLCL Fans

I thought the U.S release of FLCL was pretty good. Heck, they included the director's commentary for each episode, and the dubbing was pretty decent.

The US release was pretty good, the dub was satisfactory but will never be albe to hold a candle to the original japanese version. By the way the dirrectors commentary were a terribly helpful feature ... now one of these days i'll get around to watching the commentary on the last disk.

Oh, and the dub out takes were halarious.

yea i have a feeling you'd be disapointed by the dub. Seeing as how you actualy understand some of what they're saing.

And to keep to the topic, yes I really need to get the FLCL dvds (once I have money AND they're instock). I agree that the dub was ok, it was at least better than other dubs, and as usually the original is almost always better (except in some rare instances, like Hellsing for example, you'll know if you've watched it)

I'm also learning Japanese (albeit slowly) and there are some things that pop out at me too (the "hey, I know what that means!" kind of stuff).

I've watched some of the hellsing dub, and it is actualy a very good dub ... but i still prefer the japanese track ... i like the sound of the japanese voices. Plus alucards line "PUNK!" in the first episode is halarious. BUt i'm glad they atleast took the time to get british VA's or VA's that can at least fake a good British accent.

Good luck learning japanese ... i hope your not trying to learn from subtitles though. Thats a very long round about way of doing it ... I gave up on that idea once i figured out how complicated the language can be ... which was a long time ago.

Actually, I'm using the "Instant Immersion Japanese Deluxe" comp cds, and a college text book from 1973 Go figure.
Its going slowly, but hey I'm learing....

I only saw 2 or 3 episodes of flcl but I thought they were pretty good, especially the animation and the crazy gunfire in the 5th one.

Also, does anyone know where to get that avatar with Mamimi sucking on the ice cream? Its the one that became so controversial about it having to do with oral sex. If someone could tell me where I could find this avatar that would be great, thanks.

That's Ninamori. You can tell because, among other things, her hair is purple. And no, I don't know where to get the avatar, other than making one yourself from the footage.
