Inuyasha is officially worth buying now

Post by Garylisk » Thu Nov 20, 2003 1:59 am

I was worried since there were only 3 episodes per DVD on the current Inuyasha releases... but appearently I just had to wait a little longer. Check this out:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/de ... ance&s=dvd

It's the first 3 volumes of Inuyasha, in a collector's box, with extra stuff, and amazon has it for 15 bucks. I'm sold. :P It will be mine.

Bastard! Get my hopes up will ya :P

Well at least VIZ is finally releasing the DVD's at a fast pace. I remember a year ago they were taking 2 months to release 1 volume (3 episodes).

Now It seems like a new volume comes out every 2 weeks. They are catching up with Cartoon Network very quickly now, and its possible they will pass the 52 episode plateau by very Early next year. As for me, I really like the show dubbed (even though I've been more of a subber as of late), and I plan on owning it someday, hopefully sooner than later. If they continue to release at this pace, I'm hoping we might see season 1 boxsets going on sale for discounted prices. Lets hope.

Everyone bitches at VIZ for being too expensive, and initially they were very right. However, they have drastically reduced their dvd prices in the last several months (so glad I didnt start buying a year ago). A year ago the first DVD of Inuyasha was $30 retail, which is a common retail price for an anime volume. Now its $17 and change, at best buy (retail), and even cheaper online in places. If you consider that its about 6 dollars per episode, it compares favorably with $25 - $30 anime volumes that are 4 episodes a dvd ($6.25 - $7.50 an episode), or dead even with a 5 episode $30 dvd. Of course, you can get an entire pirated anime set for about $30, but unfortunately, we're kind of out of that scenario since Inuyasha is still running and VIZ (was) taking their sweet time with it. Besides the pirated version is shitty quality anyway (a rarity among bootlegs) and in fact was less watchable than the decently encoded Inuyasha fansubs.

you people need to go to Best Buy, every best buy here in so cal SOMEHOW has anime for at LEAST $10 cheaper then ANYWHERE else. And no im not wrong. Its for every company too. The HIGH prices on an anime dvd at best buy are when something is about $25 ..normally they are only $20. ... so i dont know where you people shop ..or maybe your best buys arent like the like 5 within a low number of miles of my house. Meh living here is great, diversity actually lowers prices, how funny. But yeah, like how people bitched about Pioneer being more expensive then others, i never understood because...at the best buy they were the same price as everything else ($20) so yeah but meh.

yeah Best Buy is really a good place to buy. I get most of my stuff from there. THey do sell anime at least $10 or even $15 cheaper. SOmething like a new realase would be $30 at suncoast it would be $20 at best buy.

I dunno... as much as I love Inu Yasha, I don't think I'd ever be able to justify buying that many DVDs for a show it would take forever and a day to rewatch (as of ep 129, the last one I saw, there was no sign of the show ending any time soon... at least, not within an arc or two). My plan: buy the movies when they're released. Three movies are a lot cheaper and more rewatchable than 50 DVDs...

Well, the movie(s) is only a side story, (just like the ranma movies) and are great fun, it isn't really a synapsis of the Inuyasha plot. Furthermore, you'd probably have to see a lot of the series to understand the setup of the movie. And finally, Movies that summarize an entire (full season anime TV) series SUCK! Theres no way you can cram 11 hours of anime into a 2 hour anime and have it remain somewhat respectable. Examples of this inlude: X the movie (granted the superior TV series came after, but both are based off of the same manga), and Escaflowne the Movie (Movie is a bad joke compared to the series) I saw the movie first in both cases, and I almost didnt even watch either series because the Movies were terrible).

Good anime movies (that are based off of a TV series) are usually those that tell side stories, such as:

Inuyasha Movie
Ranma Movies (one decent one, one good one)
Cowboy Bebop: Knockin on Heaven's door (Great Movie)

Anyway, it sounds like your watching the Fansubs, like everyone else. Recently I've liked anime subbed, but Inuyasha's dub gets really good after a rough start, so I'm going to buy it Dubbed as soon as I have some $$$. At least Viz lowered their prices. Lower em' more!

you realize just by buying it is technically dubbed and subbed...so you dont need to say "im buying it dubbed" because as long as your buying it on dvd then..it automatically is --;
