We actually spotted this program back when a-m-v.org ran Phorum, and not phpBB so the old thread about it is obviously gone.

It's never going to replace what we do. A computer program knows nothing about image composition, appropriateness to lyrics, proper transition use, etc.
It's like saying a Plotter will replace architects.

That's kind of a "no duh" sorta thing. Unless someone manages to create an aritifical intelligence at some point, and that's not gonna be any time soon.

I will not make Turing-test contest trolls with this program, I will not make Turing-test contest trolls with this program, I will not make Turing-test contest trolls with this program, I will not make Turing-test contest trolls with this program......

Still, it'd be pretty cool to run it a couple times with different input sets for the same audio, and build on or sample the results in the real/final version.

Also, orthogonality is always cool. With this program, you could edit up your first-draft version in your normal editing environment, then hand your machine your source and tell it to come up with something different overnight. Presto: instant new perspective, and if there's anything in it that's any good, you can merge that into your project. If not, you didn't waste any of your time or any of someone else's coming up with the idea.

I agree that it's not going to replace human editors anytime soon, but it could be useful in the right role.

Shin Hatsubai is a Premiere-free studio. Insomni-Ack is habitually worthless.

Actually, in all honesty, I see the program as just something for low end users to use to edit home movies and the like into a simple result, which is a good idea for that task, just so people can enjoy their own memories.

You have just described my mainline editing environment.

There's a world of difference between what something's made for, and what it can be made to do. The Internet was created to allow the US military to communicate in the event of a nuclear holocaust, and what does the world use it for? Efficient distribution of pornography and the destruction of the recording industry.

This hobby stays interesting for me because I keep finding new and different ways to screw with the input source, and new and different ways to make certain tools do things that they aren't supposed to be able to do. There's a difference between having a hammer and looking at every problem as a nail, and having a hammer and honestly trying to use it as a jigsaw.

Of course, that could be why my vids turn out the way they do.....

I was all ready to laugh at this thing until I noticed that their sepia demo video was better than my AMVs. Now I'm depressed. Thanks a lot.
