When the hell did this become a skill?

Post by DJ_Izumi » Tue Nov 18, 2003 8:06 pm

People attempting to 'recruit' others into 'studios' to produce videos for them.

The only thing I feel I can compare this too is the 3D PC gameing comunity, when people with no skills decide that they should create the latest and greatest Half-Life Modification, with a discription like this:

'i want 2 make a mod leik CS, only better ten Counter-Strike, it;ll have super real weapons i call it 'Counter-Force' all i need is a modeler, coder, artizt and a mapper i maek site 4 it on geocities!'

It's almost exactly like that! EXACTLY.

I thaught this was a hobby for christ sake. :\

well it is a hobby... but i really don't know why people are going around asking for people to join thier websites to make amvs. that's cool if you don't have a website already and you want to join a group. but yea, it's a hobby, but the act of editing is a skill. some people are very very good, and some people are just learning so they're work isn't as good as others. it's a skill that even i, and many others, are still learning. so yea editing is a skill, that people want. that's why there are movies... they have eitors and special effect artists. but making amvs is just the same as making fan films or ameture films it's hobby.

Ranting is a hobby too.

You know, I'd say it's not an invalid point, but this is just a single consequence of the whole 'accessibility-improvement' issue in AMV-making - the issue that's been subject to numerous debates in recent weeks and I don't think we want another rant on it.
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

Im not sure if your talking about a specific occurance but im not really sure where your comming from either way. If you enjoy a hobby, and other people enjoy a hobby, what better way to enjoy the hobby then together. Studios tighten the community IMO. I havnt really seen a *bad* instance of them. What i have seen a lot of are bad threads

Well, this isn't so much an attack agianst studios, as it is those people looking for AMV's to be created for their websites and orginizations.

The 'Studio' thing can be mostly just for fun, or a group that shares resources... but those people who are running out threads that read more like the Want Ads in the newspaper, it makes this seem more like an aquireable skill then anything else.
