Bandai Anime Trailers

Post by DJ_Izumi » Tue Nov 18, 2003 6:43 pm

I rented a few bandai titles from my Blockbuster... well, I rented all 3 that they had, Gundam Movies, heh. (Lets not talk about what me and my new DVD rom will do with these rentals. )

I was looking threw the disks, I'll admit they're not the most spectacular anime DVDs I've ever looked at, and the 'Gundam Model Music Video' is the most annoying extra feature in the history of dye based media.

Reguardless, I noticed that English Bandai trailers don't suck, they're pretty interesting even. ADV just uses the old Japanese trailers, or poorly edits up original creations. Manga Ent's Trailers are about as interesting as advanced calculus.

In many cases, it's the trailer that attracks me to an anime initially, I guess I've always found trailers to be an interesting part of the multimedia world

I'll agree with you about the trailers being an interesting of the multimedia world. Certain anime trailers does attract me of getting a particular series like for example, Pioneer's trailer for Mahoromatic. When I first saw it, I thought it looked SOOOO cool with all that action (reminds me of Evangelion almost), but then it quickly shifted to this cutsy, fanservice part. Then I thought, "WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?!" After doing a little reaserch on Mahoromatic, I thought it's a pretty interesting concept Gainax thought up of.

I thought ADV's trailer for Gasaraki rocked, mainly becuase I really liked the song they played with it. (Anyone know the name of the song they used btw?)

Didn't they use the theme from the series (lyrics along the lines of 'ashes to ashes...')? That's called Message #9, and is used to good effect in this video.

Gasaraki's trailer is the original Japanese Trailer, ADV did their usual slothness, and didn't make one for their american release.

ADV did however, edit their trailer for Noir... and it sucks ass.

When I eliminate work, I'm efficient, but when somebody else eliminates work, they're lazy.

Japan and America have different ideas on what is a trailer, Japan typically uses a much longer version of the series's OP, and make what is little more then a basic AMV, American trailers go into more detail, with dialoug and flashy transitions and fun stuff.

Besides, this is multimedia that we pay money for, I don't want efficent, I want quality and a good view at what a series looks like. I feel that trailers that include dialoug and attempt to give a 2min 30second view of the series and movie do a much better job at previewing something.

I've always loved the Bandai Trailers ever since I picked up Outlaw Star like, 3 years ago. Their Bebop trailer was eccentially an AMV, and a classy one at that. Their newer ones remain good, Witch Hunter Robin, Arjuna, Last Exile, etc. They all feel like high quality movie trailers.

Props to Bandai.
The best effects are the ones you don't notice.
