There was a post on AnimeNation about some kid who was Christian who tried to commit suicide after watching all of Evangelion, including End of Eva over a period of only a couple of days.. not sure if it's true or not.

I remember one from robotech:

It has to do with the song. The reason why the "Starlight Starbright" song is done so much wasn't a writing decision, but a acting decision. The rumor goes that the actress doing the english Minmay didn't like the idea of singing. The only way they could get her to sing is to do get her drunk. I don't know if that can be verivied or not

Wow. I just read that WHOLE thread including the disturbing website link along with it . . . I am now personally offended for some reason. Dunno why. Maybe it's because I love Evangelion so much and people are calling it "Satanic". Nooooo! Giant robot action!

I can see how Christians may be offended by this series, though. Even though it was created by people who see Chistianity as exotic and mystical. But seriously, read that website. It's on the thread as a link on I think the second page.

Britt: The worst! I was aiming at the horse.

Christians are not best known for their open-mindedness.
I like bugging people. Deal with it.

Two instances that I have seen in real life... Not so much an urban ledgend as 'Otaku Stupidism'

Case 1) Rei Ayanami obsessed Otaku dyes his hair blue and wears red eye contacts... all the time.

Case 2) Douglas Trueman, a person I knew, wearing that Evangelion T-shirt with the naked Kaoru and Rei, ran up to the School's Japanese Exchange student 'Nao' and promptly asked her to sign his Card Captor Sakura Manga... Because she was Japanese. She very sheepishly agreed, and avoided him for the remainder of her stay in Canada.

To make matters worse, when I tryed to reverse the situation, telling him to imagine a Japanese Person comming up to him in a Ghostbusters T-shirt, who watches subtitled copies of The Matrix and stuff, burns the theme songs to American TV shows like MASH, Friends, Third Watch to CD so he can listin to cool American music, were to come up to him and ask him to sign his Super Man comic just because he was white, would that make him look like a loser? He still didn't get it.

Too true, too true.

Anime Urban Legends kinda reminds me of You Know You Watch Whatever Too Much When . . . things. I've read a few of those and admitted to serveral of the accusations. Such as trying to park my car like Misato *failed miserably* or always saying the Chick Speech when going up in an elevator or singing Zettai Unmei Mokushiroku when going up stairs.
