Arc The Lad

Post by Sinhwa. » Mon Nov 17, 2003 8:03 pm

I was wondering if this was a good anime? I was contemplating on buying the complete set tonight, or the first 2 Love Hina DVDs. But, my friend hadn't really heard about Arc The Lad, all we knew was it was based off a computer game. So thus, I bought the Love Hina DVDs, as he has seen the whole series, and said it was quite comical.

Anyway, I was just wonderig if Arc The Lad was a good series or not, and whether it was worth buying? Also, have you had to play the game to understand the plot, or will it all make sense w/o ever touching the game? Thx in advance.

IMHO this is an awful anime, it's like watching someone else play a video game. :P

Well I own the game myself (all three actually) it was the anime that got me interested in it. It was the very first anime I bought, so it holds the nostalgic value.

The anime actually takes place during the second game, but its very easy to follow, as the first game was very short. They kept the stroy pretty faithful, tweaking the plot and some of the events orders. They also add an extra villan, but hes cool.

The only things that bugged me, was the way the way they changed the ending. Making it more happylike, it just seems to lessen the impact somewhat. Also, one of my favorite characters Gogen, didn't get very much airtime. There was also a scene on disk 4 that actually made me sick (one of the few anime scenes to do that).

If you never played the games the ending probablly won't bother you, so I would suggest getting it. Tis very good.
