I've seen and have footage recorded off TV before and it looks decent/good enough for me. And I really don't want to buy a dvd drive, because I'd only use it for AMVs. If after i get the right capture card and the quality sux i guess that i'll have to get the DVD-rom drive
"Looks good enough for me" is not a valid metric when it comes to video editing. There's lots of things that the eye cannot see in unedited footage, but start making significant changes to your source material, and defects in the captured video will quickly become appearent.

But, hey, your call.
And composite out, i've never heard of that before. My camera must really suck. It did come with the white and yellow cord. I'll try and search around for one.
You already have one.

Okay first off, the camcorder is NOT the way to go. Give up on the idea.. Are you actually thinking of placing the camcorder on a chair and aiming it at the tv then sending that to your computer? Not a good idea.

If you want to capture anime off of VHS tapes you will need a capture card that A)accepts the type of hook up your vcr uses B) does not have macrovision.

If you want to "capture" DVD footage, you need to invest in a DVD drive. This actually takes the data off the DVD with out losing quality and is the best option currently.

You also need to think about how much hard drive space you have. What with most DVDs taking up 4GB - 9GB of space PER DISC and source from a capture card can take up alot more depending on how your capture card stores the video data to your hard drive.

Before you go out and purchase something, PLEASE READ UP on some basics, goto doom9.org, check out the guides there. Check out yahoo.com for video glossaries, and MindWarp ET has a excellent guide section @ http://www.mindwarpet.com/guides.html.
