Funny that...

It's already been proven that George W. Bush et al planned/faked some of the intelligence and did a lot of very unethical things to push his war. I don't get why everyone kisses his ass so much. He does a lot of things that does hurt and did actually kill people, some of them American soldiers.

But ya see, I wasn't supporting or degrading Bush. I was only talking about Michael Moore who was previously mentioned in the thread. So..my post is relevant and yours is a bit of a stretch. :P However, I do commend you for a fairly witty response and play-on my post to show your !support of Bush. :)

What the hell do you want? UN Weapons Inspectors already found brand new French missiles buried in an illegal weapons stockpile, along with all the equipment necessary to enrich Uranium 235 in the backyard to one of Saddam's safehouses. Even before the war, during the renewed weapons inspections, the UN found how many illegal weapons and missile systems which exceeded the limited range we put on Iraq's defense network?

George Bush Sr. was more than ready to assasinate Saddam back in the first Gulf War, before he had all the body doubles and switched buildings frequently. Of course, all those fucking second and third world countries with political/economical ties to Iraq (France, China, Russia, Afghanistan, Sudan, etc) kept Bush from taking the necessary measures. Even if we scrapped all the UN sub-organizations (like the Human Rights component run by Libya!), we'd still have to deal with that uncivilized jackass Kofi Annan keeping the U.S. on a tight leash.

If anything is true about Dubbya, it's that he's a fucking wimp! We should've just wiped Tikrit off the map, and held the rest of the guerrilla-infested towns at the brink of nuclear holocaust, along with Mecca, Saudi Arabia, Libya, Iran, Sudan, and Afghanistan. If the UN or EU gave us any shit, we could just throw the UN out of New York, and demand all our weapons systems we supplied to our allies returned within two months.

The only reason the world has prospered in the last century, is because we allowed it! We are the backbone of international trade, military strength, space exploration, and telecommunications. Our enemies have to realize, if we go, they go.

Can I put down Bush and take off my pants and feel free for once?

I don't think it'd win due to the competition but Cowboy Bebop is at least Oscar worthy in my opinon.

Hey, you started it, so I had to finish it.

Despite what people may percieve of the Oscar selection process it is basically a political campaign because it comes down to convincing members to vote for certain films. It's going to be a tough campaign for those anime titles. Spirited Away was released by Miramax, which basically meant that it was a Disney film. I only mean this in terms of $. Remember, it was because of Disney that the animated film category was created after Beauty and the Beast got nominated for Best Film. As a corporate image they will not stand by and let a non-Disney film win. So expect that Brother Bear will be marketed heavily to crush the anime films by sheer force of advertising.

The other titles as far as I know have no real big Hollywood connections like that. They are released by American anime distributors. They practically have to beg independant movie theatres to just show anime movies. They do not have the resources to campaign for their title like Disney and Dreamworks can. It's going to be tough just to get anime on the ballot.

Not only that, but I also percieve that members of the Academy generally have a view that animation is for little kids. Spirited Away fit that mold. Cowboy Bebop and PatLabor may be considered inappropriate for the Academy's perception of animation.

I don't really consider Pokemon a serious contender to win. I also think because of its greater market exposure has the best chance of the anime titles of actually getting on the ballot.

Yohko Kanno should be nominated for Best Music. Mamoru Oshii and Shinichiro Watanabe for for Best Directors. Megumi Hayashibara for Best Actress. (The last one is wishful thinking. I just really like Megumi.)

:? France is hardly third-world, and it's certainly not second-world as that term is obsolete. Likewise for China and Russia.
