Help on encoding into a HIGHER RESOLUTION!!!

Post by Doishsta » Tue Nov 11, 2003 9:06 pm

:? OK, now I've been using SmartRipper to gather footage from DVDs and I use TMPEG to convert the VOB files into MPEGs, But - When I do that I can only get my videos to come out at a 312 X 240 size. I tried playing around with the settings to get a bigger ratio, but it comes out screwed everytime. Also I want to find a way to convert my VOB files into Avi's that are within the same aspect ratio as the VOB files, but I don't want to crash my computer while trying to accomplish this. When I encode the VOB files into MPEGs usually for a 2 hr movie the file is a little over a GB, and right now I have about 10 GBs that I am willing to sacrifice. So How do I accomplish my goals oh great one? :D

Thanks for the comments, but I'm still in the same position. The guides didn't have the info I need...

That's because you're doing it all wrong.

You shouldn't be converting VOBs to MPEGs to gather source footage. That's stupid. MPEGs won't edit frame-accurately, they'll have crap video quality, and they'll be slow.

Read the guides on how to edit DVD footage directly via AVISynth files, or read the portion on how to convert clips using AVISynth, VirtualDub, and Huffyuv.

Actually, just read the whole damn guide. Then you'll understand why what you're doing is wrong.

I read the guide and followed all the instructions, but everytime I try to make a quick avi copy of the AVS file right before it reaches 100% it stop because of some error. And Windows shuts down Virtual Dub. Is there another codec I can use other than PICVideo MJPEG codec? Because its not working... :!: :?:

If you've got the hard drive space for it, I recommend HuffYUV (but only taking the scenes you need and not whole episodes, because the files are really really big).
