  • Please limit your new threads (not replies) to one per week. If you have several new videos to announce, create one thread for all the videos. (Note: if you forget one you can edit your post!)
  • Offsite links are allowed, but you are required to have a catalog entry for that video as well. Threads announcing videos that do not contain a catalog entry will be moved to the Awaiting Catalog Entry sub-forum and will be deleted in 2 weeks if an entry is not created.
  • When posting announcements, it is recommended that you include links to the catalog entries (using the video ID) in your post.
  • Videos that do not contain anime are allowed to be announced in the Other Videos section and are not required to have catalog entries.

Studio Gaijin - Anger Management (AWA Pro Best Vid/Tech)

Post by Kazz » Tue Nov 04, 2003 12:31 am

Although it's been available for a while, we just wanted to make an official announcement that <a href="http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... 058">Anger Management</a> (Perfect Blue/Lovage) is available for download. If you get a message saying the FTP server is full, please use the other HTTP links. Also, please note that there are both MPEG 1 and Xvid versions, and the Xvid version is somewhat higher quality.

I would also like to mention my solo video, <a href="http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... 18651">The Beast in Me</a> (Berserk/Nick Lowe), which was entered in AWA Expo since some of you may be interested in checking it out.

In case you end up depressed after that, you can check out <a href="http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... >Juicy!</a> (Various/Depeche Mode), our Best Comedy/Upbeat/Various Nominated AWA Pro entry from last year, with a new intro which some people have enjoyed even more than the video itself! ;)

Finally, we would like to say thanks again to everyone who nominated and voted for <i>Anger Management</i>, giving it <i>Best Video</i> and <i>Best Technical</i> awards, and congratulations to all the other winners too, you made some great videos! :)

Indeed it was a good video. I like how it throws yah around trying to catch on to the odd beat synch.

Excellent video, me and Flux both wanted to give this VAT awards at AWA. I thought it was the coolest looking video in the Pro contest.

I agree, there was simply incredible editing here. Definately a classic video that will remain on my system for a long while. The median filter really killed the look of it though, IMO. Maybe you we're trying to achieve some sort of stylistic look or something... but it just comes out looking so wrong. Still,

Wow, sorry I haven't said anything earlier, but I just saw the reply notification e-mail.

Thanks for all the comments, good and bad. I'm glad so many of you liked it! I would send it around to more cons, but since it won 2 awards at the first one it was in, I don't want to troll with it...maybe I can find others that want it just for exhibition, but otherwise hopefully people will read this thread and download it. :)

To address the median issue, there were a couple of reasons for that.

1. This may or may not be the best effect I could have come up with, but I though that doing some of these things with the footage would make the video more closely match the feeling of the music. The gamma/color adjustments and stuff may have worked without the median, but I think they worked better with it.

2. The source wasn't all that great looking, and it even had some pretty ugly looking frames. Altering the look so much allowed me to crop and stretch it to make it anamorphic (unlike the DVD), and hide the imperfections of the source.

3. Are you crazy!? It looks good! ;) Seriously though, while some people apparently dislike the median effect (I think this thread is the first time I've heard it), others have said they liked it. I guess it's just a matter of personal taste. :)

As for the noise, I'm guessing you mean the little flashes that go along with the piano (other than at the very beginning)? I'm not sure that's the best thing I could have come up with, but I wanted to put something on those notes. I tried other things that would accentuate them more, but everything else I tried seemed too overpowering. Since the whole video is kinda' crazy and unreal, I didn't think that some noise flashes would detract from it. If you have any suggestions for other things I could have done in those places (or if you think I should have just skipped the piano notes), let me know. ;)

Thanks, man! :) I'm sure <a href="http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... >Spyral</a> will be happy to hear that, since she's stalking Fluxy -- errr...I mean...we like his videos a lot (and yours too). ;)

By the way, since I still haven't been able to make it to AWA, what are the VAT awards you're talking about?

Oh, one more <b>question for anyone</b>: Did any of you happen to see my Expo entry, <a href="http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... 18651">The Beast in Me</a> at AWA? If so, how was the crowd reaction? Did you guys like it? I know it's a lot more simple than Anger Management, but I'd like to know what people think of the stuff that's more straight cuts and cross dissolves.

Though I thought it was officially stated somewhere... I did give my VAT award to Anger Management. I think I had titled it the Wonderfully Creepy Award. That video was one that really stuck out to me as very unqiue and definitely creative in many ways. I couldn't think of a really good title for the award... so ... well hopefully that one is ok. 8)

The VAT awards are awards that are given by anyone who ran an AMV panel. I think they are considered official, as they were taken down on paper by MC Wagner.

Wonderful, creative, and vicious video!
