Actually Usenet is really the only place where such massive file transferring is really possible, although even then only if you're on a premium news service and have a REALLY fast connection. There's a reason why it costs money for an unlimited bandwidth account on a premium news server and why bit torrents is basically free (unless you feel like makin a donation). I personally download around 2 to 4gigs per day off Usenet, of course that costs me around $25 extra a month for the unlimited download Altopia account (bandwidth is limited to around 65Kbps). And then I've also got my free Supernews account that came with my Charter Communications account, which has unlimited downloads, and the bandwidth is limited to 40Kbps, maximum of 2 connections.

i don't think I will be posting to usenet.... since it would go away after about 30 days...

What I am probably going to do is put it in a controlled http directory where i can set a bandwidth limit....

the divx files will be in the general area... so most would download those...

Actually, I think the ISO/IMG file thing is a bad idea. A lot of versions of Nero won't let you burn ISO/IMG files as DVDs, I know cause I tried exporting an ISO from Scenarist to burn in Nero and it didn't work.

What DID work was using Nero's "DVD-Video" burning template, and dumping the disc contents into the window. Nero automatically orders the files in the proper sequence for DVD-Video compliant discs.

I would think maybe distributing it as a large RAR file with the files would be nice. That also allows people to just unRAR it to a directory on their hard drive and play it, instead of having to burn it to a disc or using an imageloading program.

Most people just use .bin and .cue files actually.

the nero I use (No idea the version... it came with the drive) suports the .iso files that dvd factory outputs... i have not tried anything else that makes .iso files...

dvd mestro outputs a .img file.... and dvd factory of meastro is the two euthoring tools i would use... so its either a file structure, .iso, or a .img file...

.bin and .cue i have only seen use by pirates... though nero does suport it... i don't have any tools that will make a .bin and a .cue....

one of my worries about the raring the files and directory structure is that the mac version of rar... leaves much to be desired (command line only)

but would result in the smallest size... ^_^

If the dvd img file is small enough to fit the DVD-5 standard, you can burn it with dvd decrypter.

...and if it isn't small enough to fit the DVD-5 standard, you have more important issues to address than distribution.
