But Eva IS a Mecha anime.

Giant Robots being main focus of anime = Mecha
Giant robots being main focus of anime that's made by sunrise = Gundam.

Oooh I don't have RaXephon yet, but hearing that someone didn't like the ending makes me think it's going to be good, afterall a lot of people think Evangelion's endings where bad...

Well since neither RahXephon nor any of the Eva's were robot's I fail to believe that either series is a mecha series. Mech by definition is short for mechanical, meaning something that is not organic.
spoiler wrote:Both the Rah and all the Eva's were living beings. The Eva's were the possible evolutions of man just like the Engel's. Which is why they bleed and can break their bones. Although I dont know the full extent of it's existence, the Rah is also a living lifeform. Like I said above, both are living life forms and not mechanical, destroying any connection with the term "mecha".
I dont care how much you want to call it a mech anime, but facts are facts. They aren't robots.

In my opinion, I think that people that expect RahXephon to be a lot like Evangelion will have it ruined for them. A friend of mine didn't like the series because of that expectation. I personally liked the series and it is one of my favorites.

whoa, man, I'm sorry for forgetting to label this as a spoiler first of all... Second of, I didn't say I hated the series, I actually like it better than EVA because the characters are less clear cut. I also only hated the last forty second or so of RAH, where as I hated the last two eps of eva. I was simply stating that it appears incredibly similar to eva. The Blood reference is not a problem, in fact I viewed it as a spirited nod towards eva in that, in the first ep of eva when the earth quake strikes and shinji grabs rei, he looks at the blood on his hand, just like in EVA, also. I was not trying to rub anybody the wrong way, it's just my way of saying that Easterners really like to question Identity a lot (Much like westerners question authority...heheh) and by doing this I often feel cheap and used and that some of rahxephon's references to eva reminded me of this.

As far as the endings go, the "this is another way it could happen" I was refering. in eva, to shinji's scenario invovling running into rei on the way to school. and in RX to the very end. I hope that doesn't spoil anything, although I know I've already written spoilers, it just seems like a show of good faith that I understand, and hope that you don't run me off for being so frank, it kind of freaks me out that you would be so unforgiving though. I'm not trying to be insensitive or anything, I understand that it's bad to spoil anime because, well...the series are ussually a lot shorter, and therefore easier to spoil.

Oh, yeah, and I KNOW that the RahXephon movie is not called "end of RahXephon" it's called IRONY (And that right there is called SARCASM, , which by the way are apparently two of the lowest forms of wit, so those of you who are hellsing fans, I sympathize with your inferior wits, hardyharhar.) I don't really mean to trash it, "mind fuskery" to me is a good thing, I love Philip K. Dick and pretty much anything that confuses me to no end and keeps me awake at night (As RX did last night, so It's entirely possible also, that I was just grumpy.) I understand what is going on, aside from the ending, which seems like one of these "another dimension" type cop outs that just end up confusing you, I mean..sigh, I don't want to accidently right any spoilers, so... whatever, obviously I wrote the wrong thing, but I'm not going to appoligize because that would make this ganging up on me alright, And would also cheapen the idea of speaking your mind. although I came pretty close to doing such in the course of this reply.

I hope that those of you who have read this and haven't seen rahxephon still watch it, because frankly it is worth watching, the characters are far more interesting and less predicatble in my mind (As compared to eva, which I suppose is what started this whole mess), also, if you are into art and music the series is brimming with tributes to every type of art imaginable, including several annunciation scenes and some beautiful music, and although I'm not a music major, I'm sure the music holds as much significance to the musically inclined as it does the artistically inclined. I would still call this one of my favorite animes, because of the artistic references that other series I like don't have. Much in the same way I like Hellsing for it's scathing sarcasm and eva for its religious references... Oh, and FLCL for it's pure inanity and reference to south park and american comics!

What The?

is this going to be one of those things that comes up again every time someone watches Rah?

Meh, there are simularities in many animes across the board. You really shouldn't be so surprised or offended or even care really. When you get right down to it batman/spiderman and superman are similar but who cares?

Anyway to summarise my position on these again.
-Argento Soma, lovely poignant thoughtful anime, way too underated for my liking
-RahXephon, much more accesible than Eva, nice character development and storyline, in short I'm really finding it enjoyable
-Neon Genesis Evangelion, really good and confusing at the same time. I'm not sure if I or anyone will ever really understand what is going on. I felt a little let down at the end and I've never felt it necessary to see EoE cos' I've heard too much about it.

Well basically if you enjoyed any of these animes and you aren't a purist regarding any of the series then you will probably enjoy all of them like me :)

I think pretty much every anime has one of those things at the end, I mean, that's what makes them so good, the cinfusion makes you want to watch it again, I can tell you I don't really want to watch love hina anymore after seeing "love hina again" it's not a bad ending, but it leaves everything closed up and clean. But look at Bebop, the ending leaves pretty much everything open (IMHO)

So, it seems that I am establishing quite a reputation for speaking too soon. Every time you see a post from me, probably take it with a grain of salt...then again, probably you should be just as harsh so I think it through a little more... Or maybe I should just think before I speak...
