There's no gender distinction.

Plus, "sempai" and "senpai" = the same thing in Japanese - せんぱい
(Also, here's the kanji: 先輩)

The Japanese character ん makes a sound that can be romanized as N or M. Therefore, the reason you see "senpai" and "sempai" is dependant on which way the translator likes to do things.
